Since its release on August 23, Black Myth Wukong has received widespread attention. The single-player action RPG title developed by Game Science recently sold over 10 million copies due to its captivating portrayal of mythical Chinese characters and setting. Unfortunately, Microsoft Xbox has been excluded from the game’s success.
An Xbox console release for Black Myth Wukong seemingly won’t be occurring anytime soon. According to an insider, it has been “indefinitely delayed” for Series Series X|S.
Black Myth Wukong Xbox Release Date Suffers Major Delay Due To Memory Leak
Developer Game Science wanted the Xbox platform to be included during the game’s official launch. However, in June, the studio revealed that Microsoft is “currently optimizing the Xbox Series X|S version” to meet the quality standards of the action RPG title. They said that the Black Myth Wukong Xbox release date would be announced the moment the quality changes are included in the current-gen consoles.
Microsoft reportedly is dealing with more problems. According to eXtas1s, who spoke to insiders and developers during Gamescom 2024, the Black Myth Wukong Xbox release has been “indefinitely delayed” due to a memory leak. This type of error occurs when a computer system stores a game’s memory but fails to release or allocate it. In these cases, the game often encounters crashes thereby affecting the performance of the console.
Revealing more about memory leak, eXtas1s mentioned that Black Myth Wukong failed the bug detection tests twice. It won’t be launched for the Xbox consoles until more optimizations are completed. However, in a piece of good news, the Xbox port is almost ready despite the setback.
“The studio is already working hard to resolve this issue and achieve the necessary certification. Once they get approval, they plan to set a release date for the game… but other than that error the game is ‘close to being ready.'”
The Xbox logo for Black Myth Wukong was removed before the game’s global launch. An official release date or window hasn’t been disclosed by Microsoft but fans are hopeful that the logo will be added by the end of the year. The action RPG game most likely won’t arrive alongside the major titles revealed during the Gamescom 2024 announcements.
Currently, Black Myth Wukong is available on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and EPIC Games Store. It is considered to be a ‘sequel’ to the Journey to the West Chinese novel and focuses on the Monkey God, Sun Wukong.
