A total of 40 teams gearing themselves up for the Apex Legends Global Series
Organised by EA and Respawn Entertainment, the Apex Legends Global Series: Split 1 Playoffs is all set to commence on the 2nd of February and will continue till the 5th of February. The tournament will be taking place as an offline event at Copper Box Arena in London. A total of 40 teams will be seen competing in this tournament which falls under the Major category of the ALGS circuit and S-Tier from Liquipedia. It holds a whopping prize pool of $1,000,000 which will be split between the top 20 teams. A three-stage format will be seen in this competition where the Group Stage, Bracket Stage and Finals will be played out.
Format of the tournament
All the 40 teams that will be competing in this tournament will play a tournament of 3 stages as mentioned above. Well, here is a detailed recap of the stages.
Group Stage
It will run from the 2nd of February to the 3rd of February and all fans will see the 40 teams getting equally divided into 4 even groups of 10 teams each. All the groups will play each other in a 6-game series which will lead to a total of 18 games for every team in the Group Stage. Once this stage gets over, all 40 teams will head for the Bracket Stage.
The top 20 teams with the highest Group Stage Score will play in the winners’ bracket and the 20 teams with the lowest Group Stage Score will play in the Losers Bracket Round 1.
Bracket Stage
It will be played on the 4th of February and there will be one 6-game series in the winners’ bracket and two 6-game series in the loser bracket. The teams that will move to the Finals are as followed –
- Winners Bracket: Top 10 teams will head for the finals while the remaining will fall to the Losers bracket round 2.
- Lowers Bracket Round 1: Top 10 teams will advance to the Loser Bracket Round 2. The remaining teams from this round will be eliminated from the playoffs.
- Losers Bracket Round 2: The top 10 teams will then advance to the Finals. The surviving teams from this round will be eliminated from the playoffs.
Finals
It will be played on the 5th of February in the Finals for the Split 2 Playoffs. The 20 remaining teams will be playing against each other using the Match Point format. The top 10 teams from the winners’ bracket will get seeded by their placements and will play in the Finals with Advance Starting Points.
Rules of the Placement
- The Finals have no maximum number of matches.
- The following game for that team is considered “Match Point Eligible” once they have got a minimum of 50 points in the Finals.
- The first team which will win the match after they are Match Point Eligible will be the winner.
- After the champion is announced, positions 2nd to 20th are ranked by total Finals points.
- There will be no limit to the number of teams who can be Match Point Eligible.
Seeding
The top 10 teams from the Winners Bracket will start the Finals based on this system
– 1st seed – 10 points
– 2nd seed – 9 points
– 3rd seed – 8 points
– 4th seed – 7 points
– 5th seed – 6 points
– 6th seed – 5 points
– 7th seed – 4 points
– 8th seed – 3 points
– 9th seed – 2 points
– 10th seed – 1 point
