An overview of the tournament
Part of the ESA Cup series, ESA Cup Season 5 is an online tournament which is taking place in the Europe region. The tournament holds a prize pool of €1,100 which is equivalent to $1,198. A total of 32 teams are currently participating in this tournament and it is totally a console-only Rainbow Six Siege tournament. The tournament follows two stages mainly the Group Stage and the Playoffs which features a Single Round-Robin format and a Double Elimination bracket. As you all know, ESA serves as a home and hub for competitive console gaming. The ESA Cup was developed to meet the needs of the constantly growing console E-Sports industry. According to Liquipedia, the tournament is under D-Tier.
Match recaps
A total of 5 matches were played in the ESA Cup Season 5 Group Stage. The first games were up from Group A which was Odessa eSport vs Team Villains and Unlimited eSports PS vs NightWolve eSports. Only 1 game was played by Group B and it was between Bubatz eSports vs NATIVE Gaming. Now let’s head towards the match recaps in detail–
· Odessa eSports vs Team Villains
The game was played on Chalet map and the first-half score remained 2-4. Later a 0-3 finish in the second half gave the Villains a win by 2-7.
· Unlimited eSports PS vs NightWolve eSports
This game was also played on the Chalet map and the first-half score remained 2-4, later a 2-3 finish in the second half led NightWolve eSports to a victory by 4-7.
· Alpenfestung eSports PS vs Molotov Gang GER
The game ended in a win for Molotov Gang GER as Alpenfestung eSports PS forfeited the game.
· Bubatz eSports vs NATIVE Gaming
The game was played on the Chalet map and NATIVE Gaming made it 0-6 in the first half. Later a 1-1 finish in the second led NATIVE Gaming to a victory by 1-7.
Know the Format of the tournament
As stated above, it is divided into two stages, these stages are Group Stage and the Playoffs. Let’s get to the details of the tournament.
Group Stage
All 32 teams are split across a total of four groups of 8 teams each. They all are competing in a Single Round Robin format and each team will be playing against each other once. The group stage follows a points system which is mentioned below –
- Regular Win will give 3 points
- Overtime Win will give 2 points
- Overtime Loss will give 1 point
- Regular Lose will give 0 points
For the TieBreakers, if 2 or more teams have the same points then the head-to-head standings for the tournament will be used to decide.
The top 4 teams from the group stage will head for the Playoffs.
The teams finishing in the 1st place will play in Round 2 of the Playoffs while second-placed teams will play in round 1 of the Playoffs. The 3rd placed teams will start in round 1 of the Playoffs and the 4th placed teams will start in the Lower Bracket of the Playoffs. All the matches that are played are the Best of 1 game.
Playoffs
It is a Double Elimination bracket and all the matches that are up till the Grand Final are best of 3 games. The Grand Final will be played in the Best of 5 game series.
The maps that are being followed in the tournament are Bank, Border, Chalet, Clubhouse, Kafe Dostoyevsky, Oregon, Skyscraper, Theme Park and Villa.
Conclusion
The tournament is currently in the Group Stage actions and as of now, it has played the opening fixtures from Group A and a single game is played from Group B. The actions will continue till the 22nd of May.
