G2 Esports’ 16-match winning streak comes to an end
Cloud9 outperformed G2 Esports as they lost the game in the Upper Bracket Semi-Final clash in ESL Pro League Season 17. Cloud9 played brilliantly and made it a flawless win in the best of 3 game series against G2 Esports. However, it’s not only that Cloud9 won the game and made it to the Upper Bracket Final from Group A. The main focus was on G2 Esports as they lost their 16-match unbeaten run, which started last year. In the Group A play of the ESL Pro League Season 17, G2’s fantastic run through the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023 encountered its first hurdle, and eventually, they lost the game against Cloud9. G2 Esports’ 16-game unbeaten streak included 13 LAN wins as well.

Map 1: Vertigo
The blow faced by G2 Esports came in the first map of the game, which was on Vertigo. It was when the team faced a shocking defeat against Cloud9. Cloud 9 thrashed G2 Esports with a massive difference of 16-6. The first half of the game ended with total domination from Cloud9, they made it a 12-3 lead. With just a few rounds away, Cloud9 won the game by making it 4-3 in the second half. In the match, Cloud9 was ruthless, they had a perfect T-side attack which gave them the proper lead and grip on the game. Cloud9’s sh1ro played brilliantly with AWP. With this, the first game of the best 3 series victory was achieved.
Map 2: Inferno
After securing a good victory, Cloud9 entered Inferno with a good synergy. G2 Players couldn’t hold on against Cloud9. However, m0NESY of G2 Esports started to deliver good performances with his AWP shots. sh1ro of Cloud9 made sure that he was not letting the match go and he went on a rampage with his site rushes. The first half ended with a score of 9-6, with sh1ro picking up the first kills for his team. The second half of the game ended with a 7-6, and Cloud9 won with 16-12 kills. sh1ro got the most kills as he registered 30 kills and got 97.9 most damages.
Cloud9’s sh1ro was insane with his gameplay performance. He collected 57 kills across the two maps and was exceptional with his AWP plays. Cloud9 performed the perfect site execution and take. With this, they headed for the Upper Bracket Final against Outsiders.
Conclusion
This game was something that G2 Esports will remember as they had not dropped a single game series since their defeat to FaZe Clan at the BLAST Premier Global Final opening fixture. Following their Semifinal triumph over FaZe in revenge, G2 won the World Final and all the matches to date. But the stop made by Cloud9 made it 16-1 to their streak.
