MAD Lions’ Journey to Victory
Europe’s MAD Lions emerged as a dominant force in the League of Legends European Championship (LEC) two years ago when they ended the longstanding reign of G2 Esports and claimed back-to-back titles after adding Javier “Elyoya” Prades Batalla, a then-rookie jungler, to their ranks. However, their reputation took a hit when they failed to win a single Bo5 match at Worlds 2022 and were knocked out in the Play-in Stage. Despite this setback, they managed to reach the postseason through a last-chance tiebreaker, only to suffer a 0-2 loss to Vitality in the lower bracket.
MAD Lions’ Comeback
After losing the first two games of the LEC Spring Finals, MAD Lions faced a daunting task. However, they did not let the pressure get to them and rallied together to execute a remarkable comeback. They defeated powerhouse teams like G2 and Vitality in the lower bracket to earn their spot in the finals against the undefeated BDS roster. MAD Lions relied on their resilience and determination to complete the reverse sweep and claim their third LEC championship title.
MVP of the Finals
Kim “Chasy” Dong-hyeon’s performance in the finals was crucial in securing MAD Lions’ victory. He was named the Finals MVP due to his outstanding carry performances in the three games that MAD Lions won. Chasy’s K’Sante champion pick was pivotal in carrying his team into the late game in Game 3, while his Jayce was a significant point of pressure around the map in Game 4, ultimately leading to a Silver Scrapes finish. His contribution was vital in ensuring MAD Lions’ success in the LEC Spring Split.
The Finals
MAD Lions and BDS played closely contested games in the Finals, with neither team able to secure a 3-2 series victory. MAD focused on aggressive mid-jungle duos and map control, while BDS drafted hyper-carries for Crownie and Nuc. Crownie gave a standout performance in Game 1, earning another Pentakill. MAD won Game 2 but made a crucial mistake that allowed BDS to come back. MAD then matched BDS’s scaling bot lane and relied on their top laner, Chasy, who played K’Sante and Jayce to great effect in Games 3 and 4, ultimately leading to a Silver Scrapes finish.
MAD Lions’ victory over BDS in the LEC 2023 Spring Split is a testament to their resilience and determination. Despite the doubts of fans, they overcame adversity and secured their spot in MSI 2023. The team’s aggressive and skirmishing playstyle, along with the excellent performances of their individual players.
