Monkey D. Garp is revered as the “Hero of the Marines” after he cornered and went toe to toe against Gol D. Roger on multiple occasions and took down Rocks D. Xebec and his dangerous pirate crew on God Valley 20+ years ago. The Pirate King himself said that if the Marines are serious about capturing him, they should send “Garp or Sengoku.”
We’ve known for a long time that Garp was as strong as Roger but it had never been shown until now. Garp’s Galaxy Impact promptly showcases the scale of his true strength where he destroyed the biggest and central town in Hachinosu Island with one punch.

Garp showed his true strength when, according to him, Coby, the future of the Marines was threatened. Blackbeard, one of the Four Emperors of the Sea, had captured Coby as proof of his strength and to intimidate the Marines. Little did he know that Coby was the apprentice of Vice Admiral Garp- the Hero of the Marines.
Blackbeard incurred the wrath of Garp who promptly came to Hachinosu Island (Blackbeard’s home base) to rescue Coby. Garp’s Galaxy Impact leveled the entire town in the middle of Hachinosu into rubble. All of this because Blackbeard threatened the “future of the Marines”. This speaks a lot about Garp’s character and strength.

Once you piece together Garp’s training regimen you’ll get a full picture of Garp’s full strength. That man trained Luffy by casting him out in the forest amidst dangerous beasts, ravines and terrible weather- it is hinted that he trained himself in a similar or worse conditions. Garp the Fist had a reputation of being able to destroy entire mountains with his fists.
