Highlights:
* Shiny Rayquaza Tera Raid will last two weeks, giving Trainers plenty of time to tame the dragon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
* Rayquaza’s weakness includes Dragon-, Fairy-, Rock-, and Ice-type moves. Prepare a team for the 5-star Tera Raid battles accordingly.
Pokémon Scarlet And Pokémon Violet will be receiving a new Tera Raid event this December. The Pokémon Company International announced on November 18 that the battle event will feature Shiny Rayquaza, the legendary dragon that debuted in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. The official news arrives two weeks after a viral Japanese pamphlet leaked the Shiny Rayquaza Tera Raid for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Although the leak mentioned a 7-star event, Rayquaza will be appearing in a 5-star Tera Raid.

Pokémon Scarlet And Violet: Shiny Rayquaza Tera Raid Duration
The Shiny Rayquaza Tera Raid will appear in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet video games on December 20, 2024, at 12:00 AM GMT. The dual Flying/Dragon-type pocket monster will be available in the Raids till January 5, ending at 11:59 PM GMT. While Rayquaza can be encountered during normal gameplay, its shiny variant is exclusive to the Tera Raids.
Based on the official news, Shiny Rayquaza can be caught once per save data. Trainers cannot capture multiple shiny variants of the dragon in the hopes of trading them. Nonetheless, they can participate in the Tera Raids in Paldea to get other rewards.
The Pokémon Company confirmed that Shiny Rayquaza may appear in future events or become encounterable via other methods. This might not be the last time players see the shiny legendary Pokémon in Tera Raids. Raquaza’s black variant has appeared in other games, including Pokémon GO, where it is a meta for the Master League.
Tera Raid Event Schedule In The Lead-Up To Shiny Rayquaza
Before the Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Shiny Rayquaza Tera Raid, the developers have scheduled various Tera Types for the 5-star battle events. These Tera Types perform well in Tera Raid battles and are ideal counters for Rayquaza. The Tera Raid schedule is divided into three parts, each starting at 4:00 PM PST, lasting for a week, and ending at 3:59 PM PST on the last day.
Tera Raid | Featured Pokémon | Start Date | End Date |
Part 1 | Corviknight and Bellibolt | November 28 | December 5 |
Part 2 | Azumarill and Clodsire | December 5 | December 12 |
Part 3 | Annihilape and Kingambit | December 12 | December 19 |
There are other notable events scheduled in the lead-up and during the Shiny Rayquaza Tera Raid. Level Up with Chansey will allow Trainers to defeat the namesake Pokémon to get high amounts of experience to level up their team. During the duration of the Shiny Rayquaza Tera Raid, Pokémon that have black coloration in their Shiny forms will appear in mass outbreaks. The list includes Cetoddle (Paldea), Carbink (Kitakami), and Fraxure (Blueberry Academy).
