The Pokémon World Championships 2024 winners have been declared after three intense competitive matchdays. Emanating from the Hawaii Convention Center, the annual event featured the best Trainers competing for the ultimate crown in Pokémon Trading Card Game, Pokémon GO, Pokémon UNITE, and the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet video games.
The champions were announced on August 19 by The Pokémon Company International. They also revealed details about an upcoming new pocket Trading Card Game.
Pokémon World Championships 2024 Winners: Japan & The USA Dominate The Competition
This year’s Pokémon World Championships were attended by over 13,000 fans. The tournament dates back two decades, which included TCG and VGC, following which GO and UNITE competitions were added to the high-profile event.

Yekai0904 got a crushing victory over Inadequance in the Pokémon GO Grand Finals. After winning the first two rounds easily, Yekai was on the verge of becoming the champion until Inadequance got a win. The fourth, comeback round was crucial for the Netherlands player. However, Yekai saved a Lickitung for the end which eliminated the opponent Giratina with ease.
Pokémon World Championships 2024 Announcements About New Changes And Experiences
The Pokémon Company disclosed its new plans for the future apart from announcing the Pokémon World Championships 2024 winners. A new TCG is slated to arrive this October. Moreover, new entries in titles such as Pokémon GO and Pokémon UNITE were revealed.
Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket will be launched on October 30, 2024. Currently available for pre-registration in the Google Play Store and App Store, the application will feature collectible Pokémon cards in immersive 3D digital art. Compared to the other TCG, it will include simplified rules and also feature cards that aren’t present in the previous. Pokémon TCG Pocket will have a soft launch in New Zealand before its global release.
Pokémon World Championships 2024 also announced new additions to the current TCG. In 2025, Trainer’s Pokémon will be released for the Trading Card game, which includes Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex, Lillie’s Clefairy ex, and a rare illustrative card of N’s Reshiram.
Pokémon GO is set to get a “big and mysterious” pocket monster. Apart from that, Morpeko, the dual Electric/Dark Pokémon will debut in the mobile game. Niantic is also working on a new Pokémon GO battle-only form feature, which will enable Trainers to switch the form of a pocket monster while using a Charged Attack. This will change the Pokémon GO meta list.
Armarouge, Darkrai, and Psyduck will join the Pokémon UNITE roster in the coming months. Similar to GO, UNITE will also get a new feature. These “500-Point Battles“, set for a launch in spring 2025, will feature Trainers in the MOBA collecting Aeos energy to dunk in the enemy’s zones and the winner is the team that gets to 500 points.
The locations for the upcoming events were also announced during the Pokémon World Championships 2024. Next year’s championship will emanate from Anaheim, California, and is scheduled for August 15 to 17. The 2026 edition will take place in San Francisco, California, from August 28 to 30.
