Best Ongoing Manga You Must Read
We could’ve easily put all the big popular titles like JJK, MHA, or Black Clover in this one- or we could’ve easily listed certified, critically acclaimed mangas like Frieren or Vinland Saga here. The reason they aren’t listed here is because they either have a better anime adaptation or simply that their quality isn’t what it used to be anymore- whether it comes to storytelling or art. For the best ongoing manga, we’ve chosen titles that are consistently great on all fronts.
One Punch Man
Yusuke Murata’s One Punch Man is an ongoing manga that releases monthly with a break now and then- and after looking at its art and page spreads, you can tell why. Murata’s art feels like anime itself- if not better. They are storyboard panels in and of itself and fans doubt if they can be replicated into anime. It’s a steep challenge but Murata’s up there with the likes of the late Kentaro Miura (Berserk) when it comes to art at this point.
Sakamoto Days
Yuto Suzuki’s Sakamoto Days is one of the recently ongoing manga in Weekly Shonen Jump and the action and characters in it are what make it stand out. It’s an underrated action-comedy manga that fans are surprised still hasn’t gotten an anime adaptation but with titles like Dandadan getting animated, it’s only a matter of time before some studio picks up Sakamoto Days for an anime.
Dandadan
Yukinobu Tatsu’s Dandadan is soon getting an anime adaptation and while we’re sure Science SARU will do it justice, the manga is a whole other experience. It’s one of the best ongoing manga in the current Weekly Shonen Jump and draws direct inspiration from Chainsaw Man when it comes to artstyle and characters. It’s even been called the modern One Piece by some due to how wacky, emotional and dark the story can be.
Chainsaw Man
Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man is an ongoing manga that is part of the Dark Triad of modern Shonen Jump alongside Hell’s Paradise and Jujutsu Kaisen. It is a cut above the rest when it comes to art, storytelling, and characters. Fujimoto’s paneling and art almost revolutionized the manga as a medium as he does unconventional things with them. There’s a reason why despite an amazing anime adaptation, his style didn’t translate well into anime and people still recommend the manga over the anime.
One Piece
This is the best time to read One Piece as Oda has kicked things up a notch after starting off the Final Saga of the story with the Egghead Island arc. Crazy reveals, characters, and developments aside, you don’t want to miss out on the hype now because, with the current internet culture, everything will be spoiled for you should you decide to wait and start this series later. It’s the best-selling masterpiece and an ongoing manga for 25+ years for a reason.
Of course, One Piece had to be on top when you think about what it is doing and what it has accomplished. But that aside, we hope you’re happy with our choices. Except Sakamoto Days all of them have an anime adaptation too. If you’re curious about the best manga series of all time, check them out by clicking the given link.
