Levy McGarden
Levy does not get a lot of screen time as she is mostly a background character. But thanks to being the Guild’s librarian, she has read almost every available magical book that there is. Levy’s magic allows her to materialize runes and words onto any object. She can also decrypt codes easily due to her linguistic aptitude. She is easily one of the most intellectual characters in the manga.
Jellal Fernandes
Although appearing as an antagonist at first, Jellal became one of the most beloved characters in the anime. Born as a prodigal magic user, his intelligence is inherent and quick. He can think very fast during catastrophic circumstances and take advantage of his enemies’ faults. A tactical genius, Jellal can use many different types of complex magic thanks to his brilliance.
Lucy Heartfilia
Lucy Heartfilia is a character often treated as just fanservice, but she is much more than that. She possesses an impressive amount of emotional and practical intelligence, which is crucial for her celestial magic. She can also decipher old runes and speak multiple languages, which often come in handy. Her diplomatic capabilities make her an asset to Team Natsu and the Fairy Tail Guild overall.
Freed Justine
The leader of the Thunder God Tribe, Freed Justine, possesses an immense aptitude for rune magic. His intricate and versatile magic allows him to lay traps for his enemies and help his friends in battle. He was able to keep the enemy mages stuck in Magnolia during the Laxus’ Battle. Freed is an asset for the Guild and one of its best defenses against attacks.

Mavis Vermillion
The first Guild Master of Fairy Tail, Mavis Vermillion is hands down one of the most brilliant mages in the manga’s universe. She is a genius that can assess situations very quickly and foresee outcomes. This allows her to strategize and lead her people to victory. Mavis has also created several powerful spells and remains one of the strongest characters in the anime.
Zeref Dragneel
The older brother of Natsu, Zeref Dragneel is a villain whose intellect and knowledge make him infinitely dangerous. Not only does he possess the ability to bring the dead back but he also has centuries of wisdom, which he uses against enemies. The black magic user was cursed with immortality as he dabbled in demonic magic way too much. Even though he is morally dubious, there is no question that he possesses one of the best minds in the whole story.
