* Mountaintop Studios have revealed their plans for Spectre Divide on consoles.
* The upcoming free-to-play tactical shooter can currently be wishlisted on Steam.
Spectre Divide, the first-person tactical shooter by indie Mountaintop Studios, has been generating buzz even before the release of the Closed Beta. Many notable game industry veterans are part of the project including former Concept Artist at Naughty Dog, Richard Lyons, former Global PR Manager at Overwatch, Steven Khoo, and esports legend Michael ‘Shroud’ Grzeseik. It draws inspiration from other popular shooting games but brings its own twists to the gameplay.
Spectre Divide Console Launch Details
Mountaintop Studios recently dropped a bombshell, confirming that they won’t be releasing Spectre Divide on consoles. It won’t be arriving on any PlayStation or Xbox consoles following its global launch as per the official news. The FPS shooter game will be exclusive to PCs and the beta registrations are currently open on Steam.
A console release is not completely out of the question, though. Similar to Valorant Console, Mountaintop Studios will launch their FPS tactical shooter after building the PC version to its highest potential, gauging the interest of fans, and coming to terms with Sony and Microsoft. Spectre Divide won’t be on consoles during the official launch but it is being planned for a PlayStation and Xbox release.
The FAQ section on the ‘What is Spectre Divide?’ article reveals Mountaintops plans:-
“We’ll be PC-only at launch, but console versions and controller support are both planned for post-launch.”
Controller support is one of the features that could be introduced alongside the console release. Additionally, the FAQ section disclosed that the developers have no “formal plans for esports at this time” but they will support community-run tournaments and events to promote its ‘competitive’ aspect.
The tactical shooting gameplay of Spectre Divide is akin to Valorant, with the exceptions being that the latest game is 3v3 and players can control two characters in a round. The animations in Spectre are also a lot more cartoonish, almost sketch-like.
Currently, Mountaintops Studios’ shooting game has no official release date. Expect a series of beta tryouts before its speculated launch in 2025.
