The World of Warcraft Twitter integration is now removed
After Elon Musk introduced a monthly fee for third parties to access the API, World of Warcraft removed its in-game Twitter integration feature. In response to recent adjustments made to the social media network, World of Warcraft is deleting its Twitter connection feature. By the 9th of January, the feature will be completely gone, and World of Warcraft users won’t be able to access the social media tool after that. It was one of the most unique features that were added in the first update for the Warlords of Draenor expansion. Players could use this tool to link their World of Warcraft and Twitter accounts and crop, upload, and share screenshots and accomplishments right from the game client to social media.
About the announcement
Through the Twitter post on Wowhead’s official Twitter channel, the announcement of the removal of Twitter integration came in front. It was just stated by World of Warcraft that this function would be discontinued and Players won’t be able to tweet from within World of Warcraft anymore. Also, they will not be able to link their Twitter accounts to the game. Players won’t be impacted by the minor update and won’t need to do anything to prepare for it.
Twitter’s policy
The abrupt termination of this in-game feature happened without much notice, but it is not unexpected. Twitter recently made the announcement that free access to the Application Programming Interface (API) which allows Twitter to interact with other programmes, will expire. World of Warcraft did not state that this was the cause, it is most likely not a coincidence that the Twitter API fee implementation starts on the same day when the feature is removed. Twitter was charging $100 per month to keep this feature running, though World of Warcraft was unwilling to pay this amount and thus discarded their feature.
Time will give the answer
Fans will surely miss this as it was Warlords of Draenor’s greatest feature from patch 6.1, apart from this, anything to the game. Nearly every feature of Patch 6.1 has been removed from World of Warcraft with the loss of Twitter integration. A function has to be removed due to Twitter making yet another questionable commercial decision as many people are disheartened. Users of the Twitter integration in World of Warcraft will have to wait and see whether a new social media network will be available shortly.
