One of the most genius ways that the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force fights the monsters in the manga is through the use of Numbers Weapons. These specialized combat devices are created from the dead bodies of the strongest Kaijus. In the anime series, fans saw JAKDF’s director Isao Shinomiya don one of these gears while fighting Kafka. Kaiju No. 8 Numbers Weapon Users Are All Incredibly Strong
Although they are created to defend humanity from monsters, wielding these heavy and formidable pieces of equipment is a monstrous task in itself. Not only do soldiers need immense physical capacity but they also have to be compatible with the weapons. Kikoru Shinomiya, Gen Narumi, and Reno Ichikawa are among the people who currently use these overwhelming gears.
5. Isao Shinomiya – Numbers Weapon 2
In the anime, the Defense Force director went toe-to-toe with Kafka’s Kaiju from wearing the gear made out of No. 2’s remains. The suit grants him immense strength, agility, and durability. It also enables him to use sonic and energy attacks which were the specialty of the monster. Unfortunately, due to his old age and being tired after the fight with Kafka, he was defeated by Kaiju No. 10 and consumed by it.
4. Kikoru Shinomiya – Numbers Weapon 4
Isao Shinomiya’s young daughter Kikoru definitely lives up to the family’s name. At the tender age of 16, she became humanity’s hope against massive Kaiju attacks due to her genius battle abilities. Her suit, made from No. 4’s body, was previously worn by her mother Hikari, who died at the hands of Kaiju No. 6. This gives the suit much more emotional value than the rest. Other than strength and flexibility, the suit also grants her the ability to fly, which she utilized while killing Kaiju No. 15.
3. Reno Ichikawa – Numbers Weapon 6
Made from the scales of the ‘King of Kaiju’, Reno Ichikawa’s weapon is one of the most dangerous in the series. He is the first person in the Force’s history to be compatible with Kaiju No. 6’s corpse. Under the tutelage of Jugo Ogata, Reno was able to improve his innate strength to a point where he could wield the weapon without damaging his body. This particular suit allows Reno to use No. 6’s cryokinesis powers and freeze everything around him. He was powerful enough to defeat several Daikaiju with a single blow while the force was fending off No. 9’s massive attack.
2. Gen Narumi – Numbers Weapon 1
It is no surprise that Gen Narumi, the captain of the Defense Force’s First Division, wears the oldest numbers suit in existence. Thanks to No. 1’s special power, Gen can use the lenses made from its retina to read the electrical signals on his opponent’s body and correctly predict their next move. Paired with his own genius combat techniques, the weapon’s foresight makes the captain a frightening force to be reckoned with. In the manga, he was able to overpower Kaiju No. 11 who had Isao Shinomiya’s memories. The fight was one of the most emotional encounters in the manga and fans were glad Gen was able to come out victorious.
1. Soshiro Hoshina – Numbers Weapon 10
The Third Division’s Vice-Captain and the formidable Mina Ashiro’s right-hand man Soshiro is probably the most unique combatant in the force. Unlike his peers and commander, he is not very good with firearms and depends on his prodigious sword-fighting skills to defeat smaller Kaijus. He battled the infamous Kaiju No. 10 and partially destroyed its core. After that, No. 10 wanted to be turned into a weapon that Soshiro could use. This made the Vice Captain the only person to own a live Kaiju suit that has a mind of its own.
Their fights are as funny as they are intense and action-packed. Unlike the other soldiers, who ‘use’ their weapons, Soshiro and No. 10 are more like two fighters using one body. However, they were able to work together and defeat Kaiju No. 11, who was an improved version of No. 10. Fans want to see more of their combined skills in the future.
