XDefiant game modes feature Ubisoft’s take on certain classical FPS shooter modes. The company has done an incredible job of bringing modes such as Zone Control and Hot Shot, which have elements similar to other games, and tweaking a few of their gameplay aspects to increase the pace of combat. Hot Shot has become a favorite of XDefiant fans and is the mode that truly highlights the XDefiant experience.

All 6 XDefiant Game Modes In Preseason Version
Currently, there are six Preseason XDefiant game modes — Domination, Occupy, Escort, Zone Control, Ranked Trial, and Hotshot. More details on the XDefiant modes are given below in this guide:-
Domination
Domination is a team-based match where players are required to gain control of three zones in different areas of a map. Each controlled zone provides the team 1 point per second. The goal is to accumulate the most points by repeatedly contending for the enemy zones and protecting the ones captured by the ally team until the clock runs down or the target objective is complete.
Occupy
Occupy is similar to Domination. However, instead of three zones, there will be a single zone that teams need to contest. The zone will keep changing places on the Map after a certain time. Zones provide 1 point per second and the team is victorious if it reaches the specific number of points required.
Escort
Escort is among the most fun XDefiant game modes. There are two teams, divided into Attackers and Defenders. The Attackers are tasked with escorting a robot to the delivery point while the Defenders need to stall them or eliminate all Attackers. An Attacker needs to move alongside the robot else it will retreat in the opposite direction.
As the first Attacking team progresses and reaches checkpoints, they will change the spawn locations of the teams. A round is complete when the Attacking team’s timer runs out or they reach the objective, following which teams will switch roles.
If the first Attacking team delivered the payload, the next set of Attackers have to beat their opponent’s time. Meanwhile, if the initial Attackers failed to deliver the robot, the new attacking team must beat the distance covered by the opponent’s robot.
Zone Control
One of the most intense XDefiant game modes, Zone Control divides players into Attackers and Defenders. There are four initial Zones that Attackers need to gain control of after which they will unlock the fifth Zone. Meanwhile, the Defenders need to stop the Attackers until the time runs out.
The goal of the Attacking team is to take over all five zones within the time allotted. Once the round is complete, the roles are switched. If the initial Attackers captured all five zones, the second Attacking team will then have to beat the opponent’s time. Otherwise, they have to gain control of more zones compared to their opponents.
Ranked Trial
Ranked Trial is one of the latest XDefiant game modes. It features 4-versus-4 team battles instead of the usual 6-versus-6 modes. The mode includes Domination, Occupy, Escort, and Zone Control, all in a 4v4 setting, providing players practice before they start grinding for a higher rank.
Hot Shot
Hot Shot is similar to Call of Duty’s Kill Confirmed mode. Not only players are required to kill an enemy but they also need to pick up their bounty token to secure a point. Bounty tokens are like coins that drop on the ground after an enemy is killed. Picking up the bounties of fallen teammates denies opponents points.
Each bounty token that is collected adds to the Hot Shot points, which return to zero after a player is killed in battle. The player with the most bounties becomes marked on the Map as ‘Hot Shot.’ They gain temporary buffs to their weapons such as increased reloading speed, and increased physical stats like health and enhanced movement speed. The marked player also gets three points per bounty token.

Taking out the enemy HotShot and picking up their bounties almost guarantees that the player will be the next HotShot. It is arguably the most intense of the XDefiant game modes which requires knowledge of the best XDefiant weapons and tactical gameplay.
