Joyboy And Sun God Nika Are Separate Entities In One Piece
Joyboy, as revealed by Vegapunk on his dying broadcast recently, was a Giant from Elbaf who lived 900 years ago. He was the first user of the Hito Hito no Mi– Model Nika Devil Fruit- which was and still is one of the Mythical Zoan Devil Fruits. Joyboy was also the first ever pirate in the One Piece world.
It’s to be noted that nowhere is it mentioned that he was the first one to set sail and was thus called a pirate. There’s a chance sailing had already been invented but Joyboy did not identify as a sailor. It’s also unknown if Joyboy was his real name or just the moniker people gave him for his deeds and impact on the world.
Sun God Nika on the other hand is a legend- a mythical figure who never actually existed. Perhaps in a fairy tale or a children’s story, he was a cartoonish hero who could make people laugh and liberate them with his dance, song, and mirth. Sometime in the ancient history of the world, the slaves wished for his existence which in turn manifested into the Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit we know today.
Nika was deified as the Sun God Nika and was prayed to and wished for to bring in joy and liberation. As Mythical God Zoan Fruit, the Nika Devil Fruit has a will of its own which it used to evade the World Government for 800 years. Nika’s history after all runs even deeper than that of the Void Century, Joyboy, and the Ancient Kingdom.
Who Is Luffy In This Dynamic
Monkey D. Luffy is definitely not the descendant of Joyboy though it can be plausible to say he’s the reincarnation of Joyboy’s spirit or the one who carries the will of Joyboy. This has nothing to do with his Devil Fruit and has everything to do with his nature as a character.
When Luffy transforms into his Gear 5 however, Luffy transforms into the literal Sun God Nika. Luffy then becomes this Mythical God who fights with his stretchy rubber body and with full freedom. At this moment, Luffy is the Sun God Nika but since Joyboy was the first one to use and awaken this fruit, most associate this form of Luffy to be that of Joyboy- this is where Joyboy and Sun God Nika become one.
There are also speculations and theories floating around the community that Luffy’s Gear 5 is still incomplete and that Sun God Nika hasn’t fully manifested. Rumors say this Devil Fruit could also have been the first or one of the first Devil Fruits in history and that Luffy will only become the real Sun God Nika once he eats the Mother Flame in Vegapunk’s Lab.
