The biggest Dragon Ball battle is back after more than 15 years
Bandai Namco announces that a new game in the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series is being developed after nearly 15 years since the last installment. It was disclosed at Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2023, an occasion organised by Bandai Namco with a sole focus on video games based on the enduringly well-liked anime series. It featured a Dragon Ball FighterZ tournament, a card game tournament, and even sporadic musical interludes with Dragon Ball Z singer Hironobu Kageyama. The announcement of a new Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi game was one of the biggest surprises that caught fans off guard.
Teaser for the Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi
Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball manga series inspires the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi fighting game series, created by Spike. The series was released by Namco Bandai Games between 2005 and 2007 under the Bandai brand in Europe and Japan and the Atari brand in North America and Australia. When Bandai Namco Partners acquired Atari’s PAL distribution network, Atari’s involvement was effectively over. Since 2010, Bandai Namco has also handled North American publishing for upcoming Dragon Ball Z games.
The second and third iterations of the original game were released for the Wii in 2005 and 2010, respectively, and Tenkaichi Tag Team was released on the PlayStation Portable in 2010. On March 5, 2023, Bandai Namco and Toei Animation made a series announcement during the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2023.
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4 trailer
Old footage from Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 was used to open the trailer. This footage showcased several special transformations and moves, including Vegito, Super Saiyan 4 Goku, and Ultimate Gohan. After cutting to Goku transforming into a Super Saiyan in the same old graphics from the earlier games, the artwork immediately changes to show Goku powering up in his Super Saiyan Blue form rather than a Super Saiyan state.
The game’s new anime aesthetic is achieved using the same cel-shaded art style as in Dragon Ball FighterZ. Fans cheered at this news, and many people on Twitter expressed similar joy at the return of a beloved franchise. Unlike Goku’s transformation, which appears to be modeled precisely after the scene where Goku transforms into Super Saiyan Blue in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, no gameplay was shown in this trailer.
Conclusion:
There is still a lot of excitement in the Dragon Ball Z community about the new Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi. The series is renowned for its fun gameplay and a large cast of fighters.
