Do MW2 skins carry over to MW3? Despite Modern Warfare III’s worldwide launch being close, many Call of Duty fans are still curious about the MW2 skins for weapons, operators, and more carrying forward to the upcoming FPS title. Fortunately, Activision has already addressed the same via the “Carry Forward Q&A” blog in August 2023.
The straightforward answer to one of the most burning questions around the carry-forward of MW2 skins is yes. Almost everything players own in Modern Warfare II will also be usable in Modern Warfare III, with a few exceptions. However, there will be no “Carry Back,” which implies that MW3 cosmetics will not be available in MW2.
Readers should not skip the following guide if they want to know more about the “Carry Forward” of MW2 cosmetics to Modern Warfare III.
Do MW2 Skins Carry Over To MW3? Availability Of Operator Bundles & Other Cosmetics Explained
The majority of cosmetics that players own in MW2 or Warzone 2.0 will carry over to Modern Warfare III, as promised by the developers. Activision has specified that Modern Warfare II players with unlocked operators or operator skins will own the same in Modern Warfare III. Here’s what the developers wrote about the “Carry Forward” of the MW2 operator skins:
“For Modern Warfare II players, all unlocked Operators and Operator Skins will carry forward into Modern Warfare III. This essentially means that every Operator a MWII player has unlocked, obtained via challenge, or purchased (including the PlayStation® Exclusive Oni Operator), will be available in MWIII.”
However, Modern Warfare III players who don’t own MW2 cannot access any MW2 base operators (the operators with default skins unlockable in Modern Warfare II). It also includes the content unlockable in Warzone 2.0, which was launched with MW2 Season 1 in 2022. Therefore, MW2 players who upgrade to MW3 will access all their unlocked operators or operator skins in the latter.
Apart from the operators or operator skins, players who have acquired weapon skins in MW2 will be able to use them in Modern Warfare III. All MW2 weapons and blueprints will “Carry Forward” to MW3. It means if players already own a specific skin in Modern Warfare II, they will not face any issues using it in Modern Warfare III. However, most MW2 weapons will still need to be unlocked via challenges in MW3.

Thus, almost every cosmetic that Modern Warfare II players own will also be accessible in Modern Warfare III. However, there are a few exceptions, like skins for the Tactical Amphibious Vehicle, which will be unavailable in Modern Warfare III. Hence, any MW2 cosmetic of any base item or equipment unavailable in MW3 will not be accessible after the worldwide launch of the latest Call of Duty.
