Appearing first in chapter 120 of the Dandadan manga, Saint-Germain, aka Sanjome is certainly an intriguing character. Although he helped Momo, Okarun, and Zuma defeat the Fairy-Tale Card before, Kouki revealed his true nature in the most recent issue. It proves that not only is Sanjome extremely powerful, but also a devious alien being who won’t let anyone stand in his way to achieve his goal.
Who Is Count Saint-Germain in Dandadan?
Named after the famous Count of Saint Germain, the character is truly an enigma. Although we know he’s an alien, his origins remain unknown. During the Space Globalists Arc, he was helping the Kur aliens trying to take over Earth. Later, he reintroduced himself as a teacher at Momo and Okarun’s school, taking on the name Sanjome. Although he helps the students build the History and Culture Research Club at the school, none of the students seem to be able to remember his face. During the Danmanra Arc, he helped Okarun and his group defeat the overpowered Fairy-Tale Card.
However, after his defeat, the Yokai tried to run away, but Saint-Germain still pursued him. He attacks the powerless Fairy-Tale Card and extracts his power from him. The crafty alien then revealed that it’s his goal to collect everything connected to the paranormal, which includes Yokai and spiritual powers. It is also Saint-Germain who asks if Fairy-Tale knows what ‘Dandadan’ is. This points towards him being the overarching villain of the manga. Recently, he also asked Okarun to ‘Yield’, but let him go, likely because the protagonist had already lost his powers. Fans are now eager to learn more about this mysterious and confusing villain.
Dandadan Chapter 174 Explained Saint-Germain’s True Nature
In chapter 173, we saw that the school nurse, known as Queen Sensei, could enter Empty Space. In the recent issue, she revealed that in order to help students suffering from spiritual issues, she used to accompany them to various exorcisms and other rituals. This slowly opened her up to the spiritual world, allowing her to see what the naked eye couldn’t. She is easily able to extract the truth from Kouki, who is surrounded by millions of tiny pygmies. After Kouki’s confession, we understand that it was Saint-Germain who forced her to attack Momo.
The quiet Kouki reveals how someone got a hold of the indecent pictures she had posted on an anonymous website. They then proceeded to blackmail them and provided them with the necessary means to attack Momo. However, she couldn’t remember the face of the person who asked her to do it, much like Zuma, who forgot who gave him the power to save his friends. Kouki also says how the person didn’t want to kill Momo, but just take her spiritual power. He gave her the same letter opener he stole Fairy-Tale Card’s powers with. As a collector of the paranormal, there is no question that Sanjome is behind everything that’s happening to Momo and Okarun.
However, sexually blackmailing a high school girl to get what he wants is certainly low, even for a villain. Also, there are many questionable villains in Dandadan, they mostly try to use their power to defeat their enemies, Saint-Germain, on the other hand, is not only powerful but truly evil. His recent behavior proves that he won’t hesitate to stoop to the lowest of lows to complete his wicked collection. With a seemingly vast number of powers at his disposal, there is no telling who he will use to steal Momo’s ability next. It seems that Okarun and Momo have found themselves a truly abominable enemy this time around.
