Death Stranding is celebrating its 5th anniversary, and Kojima Productions has dropped a surprising news for the Xbox fans. Five years after its release on PlayStation 4, Hideo Kojima’s critically acclaimed action game has arrived on the Xbox Series X/S. On November 7, 2024, Kojima Productions announced the addition of Death Stranding: Director’s Cut to the Xbox Series X/S catalog while revealing a time-limited discount for different ports.
Death Stranding: Director’s Cut Gets Massive 5th Anniversary Discount Across Platforms Including Xbox Series X/S
Along with the game’s debut on Xbox Series X/S, Kojima Productions and 505 Games confirmed a limited-period sale price. DS: Director’s Cut is available at a 50% discount to commemorate its 5th Anniversary. Players can grab the game for US$19.99/£17.50 on Xbox Series X/S, PC (Steam & Epic Games Store), Amazon Luna+, and Apple App Store (iOS, iPadOS, and macOS).
For the uninitiated, Death Stranding is Kojima Productions’ first title after Hideo went ‘independent’ after he departed from Konami in 2015. The original game was released on PlayStation 5 on November 8, 2019, where Sony Entertainment Interactive served as publisher. The following year, in July, a PC port was published by 505 Games. The same company also published a Director’s Cut in 2021 for PC.
Since the game’s launch across platforms, it has garnered over 19 million players across the globe, as recently confirmed by Hideo Kojima. A sequel to the game has already been in the works since as early as May 2022. DS2’s first trailer was released at Game Awards 2022. At the same time, a second trailer was released during Sony’s State of Play in January 2024. The developers have revealed multiple promos and updates in recent months.
Officially titled Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, the developers are aiming for a launch in 2025 on PlayStation 5, but a precise release window/date has yet to be confirmed.
