The Demon Slayer Marks stand as a testament to the extraordinary prowess and legacy of the most formidable demon slayers who fought alongside Yoriichi Tsugikuni- the first and strongest demon slayer who invented the ultimate Sun Breathing Style from which all other Breathing Styles have descended. Demon Slayer Marks thus date back to the Sengoku Era- back when Demon Slayers were generally stronger and wore these marks with pride.
Demon Slayer Marks Allow Slayers to Tap Into Beast Mode
These Demon Slayer Marks are not mere tattoos but are significant symbols that amplify a slayer’s physical capabilities, resonating with their Breathing Style and, in rare cases, even echoing the flames of tradition and heritage.
Demon Slayer Marks are unique symbols that manifest on a slayer’s skin, resembling or representing their own individual Breathing Style, often visible on the face or body. The conditions for awakening these marks require a demon slayer to push themselves to the point of death in battle with an increased heart rate of over 200 beats per minute and a fever surpassing 39°C (102.2°F).
But before a demon slayer even attempts to meet these conditions, they have to first come in contact with the ‘First Marked One’ who is usually, supposedly, a descendant of Yoriichi’s bloodline or spirit and in this case just happens to be our protagonist- Tanjiro Kamado.
Why Tanjiro Is Key To Defeating Muzan and His Demons
Tanjiro’s Demon Slayer mark manifested first in his fight against Upper-Rank Six Gyutaro who had to be defeated by the combined efforts of Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, Nezuko, and Tengen Uzui- the Sound Hashira. Ever since then, in the Swordsmith Village arc, both Mitsuri and Muichiro also awakened their Demon Slayer marks after being in contact with Tanjiro on a day-to-day basis.
