Demon Slayer Season 4 Episode 3 Delves Into Why Tengen Uzui Retired
Demon Slayer Season 4 Episode 3 shows us Tanjiro all fit and healthy ready for training with the other demon slayers under Tengen Uzui’s Stamina training. Uzui has an eye patch now and one of his arms is unusable but he’s still a formidable fighter with loads of Hashira-level stamina, strength, and speed.
Tanjiro is the only one who can comfortably keep up with Tengen’s training regimen and they even have a mock battle at night where Tanjiro is expected to fight and protect his slayer allies while Tengen attacks them in the dark like a demon would. The other layers who are less proficient than Tanjiro are only expected to protect themselves.
The Reason Why Tengen Uzui Retired
Throughout the episode, we see that Tengen is still a formidable opponent for any demon even though he’s handicapped with only one arm and one eye. He’s strong enough to push Tanjiro around and even evade his nose and eyes with his ninja techniques and upbringing.
The reason Tengen Uzui retired is because of his three wives. He didn’t want to worry them and he realised that he loved them more than risking his life to hunt demons. Besides, he also admits he’s nowhere near as strong as he was at his peak. He also doesn’t want to risk the lives of his wives anymore.
