One Piece’s Egghead Island Arc of the manga is the first of the Final Saga and is already one of the most shocking and lore-heavy arcs in One Piece. The pent-up mysteries and questions are slowly but surely getting answered. So it begs the question- what is Dragon’s plan in One Piece or “answer” to the world? Recent fan theories say that the latest developments in Egghead are actually part of Dragon’s plan.

What Does Monkey D. Dragon Want in One Piece?
In his first appearance in Loguetown, he said ‘The world is waiting for our answer’. And yet, despite all the mystery and hype surrounding his ‘Most Wanted Man’ and the ‘Worst Criminal in History’ titles, he has yet to do anything significant in the story.
His bounty is supposed to be higher than the Yonkos and even though this doesn’t mean he’s necessarily the strongest of them, he should still be comparable in strength. And yet, he appears scared and terrified to act impulsively against the World Government- who are his sworn enemies.
The Revolutionary Army was founded by Dragon to fight the World Government and the Celestial Dragons and yet he appears more scared of them than Luffy, his own son. But with the latest developments in Egghead Island, we can guess why- the Gorosei.
The Gorosei Were The First Obstacle To Dragon’s Plan in One Piece
We still don’t fully understand the Gorosei– their history, their roles, and their powers are a mystery. And they are already the most terrifying enemies we’ve faced to date. A popular fan theory posits that what Dragon wants is to attack or infiltrate Mariejois to steal “its treasure” as hinted by the Heavenly Demon and ex-Celestial Dragon- Doflamingo.
Since all of the Gorosei are now gathered in Egghead to eliminate Luffy and Bonney and stop Vegapunk’s broadcast, this is the perfect chance for Dragon to infiltrate Mariejois.
While we don’t know if Dragon knows about the existence of Imu or the Holy Knights yet, we do know Vegapunk has been in contact with Dragon for a long time and we know Vegapunk isn’t dumb enough to have not seen his assassination coming.
So what if this was all Dragon’s plan or even Vegapunk’s plan to lure the Gorosei away? What if Vegapunk’s death and his final worldwide broadcast were just a distraction to bring all of the Gorosei to Egghead?
The Theoretical Aftermath of Dragon’s Plan in One Piece
Now that the Gorosei aren’t guarding Mariejois, Dragon can have his way, and depending on whether he knows about the Holy Knights or Imu, he may have to fight them or flee in shock and defeat. Maybe he’ll even be killed by one of these opponents.
We still don’t know Dragon’s Devil Fruit but we do know it can produce very strong winds. Maybe that’s why Vegapunk gave a 10-minute timer on his dying broadcast to the world- to allow Dragon to reach Mariejois within this time. Now Dragon is not Kizaru so he can’t travel at light speed but he could have other ways to reach Mariejois in time from Kamabaka Kingdom.

And even with all of that, we haven’t factored in how Luffy’s Gear 5 will play into Dragon’s plan. Is Dragon aware of Sun God Nika and that Luffy inherits that Devil Fruit now? Was even Luffy’s action and role in this arc all planned or foreseen by Dragon? Or is it because of Luffy’s awakening that Dragon can go forward with his plan?
