The VALORANT Champions Tour 2024 season has concluded with an enthralling Champions Seoul Grand Finals event, where EDward Gaming outplayed Team Heretics to claim the trophy. VALORANT Champions 2024 turned out to be VCT China’s first-ever international trophy, especially after EDG got closer to it multiple times.
Before its win at the Seoul event, EDG had six VCT International events, including two Champions, three Masters, and one LOCK//IN, but didn’t find success. This time, the Chinese team held the nerve to outclass Team Heretics, which lost its second VCT International event in succession after being runner-up at Masters Shanghai.
VALORANT Champions 2024 Grand Finals: EDward Gaming Won By 3-2 Against Team Heretics After Going On The First Map
Even before the Grand Finals event, almost every fan anticipated a fierce clash between EDG and Team Heretics, and the series lived up to everyone’s expectations. On Map 1 (Haven), Team Heretics ran away with a healthy first-half lead of six points, ultimately winning 13-6. Following a loss on Haven, EDG was looking to make a comeback on Sunset, where it tied the series 1-1 by registering a dominant win by 13-4.
The game was open before the start of the Map 3 (Lotus) clash, which saw a closely fought contest during the first half with a score of 6-6. After halftime, EDG quickly pulled things back and registered a 2-1 lead in the series with a final scoreline of 13-9. Things were looking easy for EDward Gaming on the scoreboard, but Team Heretics persevered during the first half and inched ahead by winning Map 4 (Bind) by 13-11.
The series was wide open again, with both teams having equal chances to claim the victory on Decider Map (Abyss) and take home the Champions 2024 trophy. However, EDward Gaming displayed its dominance for the final time to get a first-half lead of four points by 8-4. After halftime, Team Heretics put in its efforts to stop EDG, but they were not enough. EDG claimed the Champions 2024 trophy and the first prize of $1,000,000.
In addition to EDG’s victory, the team’s star performer, Zheng “ZmjjKK” Yongkang, also won the VCT 2024 MVP award. It is worth noting that KangKang was almost invincible during the Grand Finals, scoring 111 kills throughout the series.
