Highlights:
* FragPunk’s release window was revealed by the Xbox Games Showcase 2024.
* Alpha tests were conducted at the end of June and finished at the beginning of July.
A first-person perspective party-based shooter, FragPunk aims to bring a completely new experience with its unique card system and fast-paced gameplay. Not only will it require strategic gameplay but it will also include card collection elements. The game is being developed by Bad Guitar Studios, a subsidiary studio of NetEase Games‘ ThunderFire Studios, so it is expected to arrive with a bang!
5v5 Shooter FragPunk Release Date & Platforms
Bad Guitar Studios hasn’t announced a FragPunk release date. During this year’s Xbox Showcase, the developers did reveal a 2025 release window. The exact launch date and time could be revealed at the beginning of the next year. Currently, fans can wishlist the game.
FragPunk is still in its early stages of development. The Alpha Testing began on June 27 and ended within a week, promising a lot of excitement. The main features of the game are not only the card system but also character abilities. Similar to Valorant, each character will have specific skills that could be activated strategically in the Sci-Fi FPS shooter.
Following its launch, FragPunk will be available on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Steam. Online gameplay on Xbox will require the Game Pass subscription. Given that it will be exclusive to Microsoft, the game won’t be arriving on PlayStation consoles.
FragPunk Gameplay: Card-Collection, Agent Abilities, & Weapons
Open Alpha featured 15 guns with each suiting a player’s gamestyle. Shotguns had an incredible range and power, although that could be balanced in future updates. Fast-firing Assault Rifles helped players mow down opponent after opponent while Sniper lovers had to find the best positions to survey the battlefield before pulling triggers.
The card system of FragPunk is the feather in its cap. Unlike other shooting games, players can unlock different cards as they complete missions by playing matches. These cards provide buff to the teammates such as extra headshot damage or armor. Like Valorant, where different Agents need to be collected, Bad Guitar Studios’ shooting game has a variety of cards to obtain.
While each character in FragPunk has unique skills, their movements in the upcoming shooter are similar to XDefiant. This facilitates a fast-paced experience but the developers need to regularly monitor the weapon balance and the meta. In its initial days, XDefiant struggled to balance Sniper Rifles.
FragPunk will be a free-to-play title but there are optional in-game microtransactions for cosmetics and characters. Everything considered, it is worth wishlisting.
