Frieren Beyond Journey’s End Episode 28 What To Expect
Episode 28 of Frieren will conclude the fate of the remaining candidates for the First Class Mage Exam. While we don’t see what most ask for, we see Fern acquired at the end of the episode.
Frieren Beyond Journey’s End Episode 27 Recap
Episode 27 of Frieren starts with Fern and Frieren fighting over Fern’s broken staff. Heiter had given it to her so it holds a special significance to her and thus she wanted to get it repaired- to which Frieren had coldly replied to just replace it.
Frieren, despite being dense to human sentiments still takes her broken staff to Richter whose shop is renowned for being able to fix them. Richter grumbles about his luck after Denken and Laufen’s sympathetic visit but he eventually gets to it and fixes her staff.
In the second half of the episode, the Third Phase of the First Class Mage Exam begins and we see Serie surprisingly take over as the examiner. She intends to interview each candidate peacefully and pass them according to her instincts and judgment simply because too many have passed the Second Phase. Kanne and several other candidates are rejected before we reach Frieren and Fern’s turn.

Frieren fails too because her ideals don’t line up with Serie’s. Fern is next and unlike anyone else, she notices the fluctuation in Serie’s mana which impresses her. Despite Fern refusing to join her as her student, Serie still passes her because her instincts are always correct and she would never fail a potentially great mage.
