A veteran executive of Amazon Game Studios announced his departure
John Smedley is a veteran in the video games industry with over three decades of experience under his name. He has been the head of the Amazon Game Studios office located in San Diego for the last six years, since 2017. But now his journey there is coming to an end.
According to a recent report from Bloomberg, in a recent mail sent by John on Wednesday to the staff, he said that he will be leaving the company. In the mail, Smedley wrote that he has put a lot of thought into the matter, and with that, he has decided that it is time for him to try his hand at something new and different.
As per the report from Bloomberg, Andy Sites will be taking the role of the studio head now. During this time, Smedley will be wrapping up and helping the company to ensure a smooth transition.
One Amazon spokesperson went on to talk about the efforts and contributions of John towards the gaming industry and Amazon Game Studios. The spokesperson said that John is a legend of this industry, and the company is grateful for all that he has done for the company over the last six years.
With all said and done, this certainly is not the last time that we are hearing of John Smedley, as his career is not coming to an end, it is just his journey at Amazon Game Studios that is coming to an end.

John Smedley has been a part of the gaming industry since the early 1990s. His career started with a development company that he started called Knight Technologies. Over the years, he has been involved with the development of several projects, including the original EverQuest and was also the co-founder of Verant Interactive, which later became Sony Online Entertainment, after getting purchased by Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Later in 2017, he joined Amazon Game Studios and became General Manager there. And, now his journey in that company is coming to an end.
