Ghost In The Shell Anime Series Scheduled For 2026
Official sources have confirmed that a Ghost in the Shell anime series can be expected for release sometime in 2026. We don’t know if this project has already been planned and is under production but considering it’s expected to release in two years, we’re sure the team has already started working on it- you can check out the announcement teaser below.
The TV anime will be animated by Science SARU who have previously worked on Devilman: Crybaby and are currently working on Dandadan, so we can rest assured that the animation will stand out and be top-notch creatively and visually. We still don’t have any details about its directors, animators, or writer but we do know it will adapt Masamune Shirow’s action sci-fi manga of the same name.
Why A Ghost In The Shell Anime Series Remake Is Necessary
Directed by Mamoru Oshii and animated by Production I.G., the original movie was released in 1995 which makes it an iconic classic from the 90s era. While most sci-fi fans have seen it, most new-age otakus are unaware of it despite craving rich, original content in today’s saturated market.

Seeing how many old IPs are getting remade with modern animation and technology to fit a modern audience and promote more classics (the latest being Spice & Wolf), it makes sense for Japanese animation studios to revive this classic for more recognition. If you are interested in modern action flicks, then check out Netflix’s Sakamoto Days which is already in production and is set for release in 2025.
