The 42nd Golden Joystick Awards was held on November 21, 2024, a few days after the nominees for The Game Awards were revealed. Hosted by Ben Starr, the voice behind Clive Rosfield in Final Fantasy and Khazan in The First Berserker: Khazan, the annual event saw multiple games, voice actors, and companies being awarded for their valuable contributions. Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, Astro Bot, and Helldivers 2 won multiple accolades. However, it was Game Science’s Black Myth: Wukong that won the ultimate prize in the Golden Joystick Awards 2024.
Golden Joystick Awards 2024 Winners Announced
Almost all the video games that were declared winners in the 42nd Golden Joystick Awards are also The Game Awards contenders, including Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar Game’s upcoming action RPG is the ‘Most Wanted Game’ as per public vote. Additionally, GTA 6 is competing for the ‘Most Anticipated Game’ accolade with the likes of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Ghost of Yōtei in The Game Awards 2024.
Balatro, a deck-building roguelike, is also on the list of the Golden Joystick Awards 2024 winners. Developed by LocalThunk, the much-hyped indie title received nominations for several TGA categories. Balatro and Astro Bot likewise have impressed fans and critics. Team Asobi was voted Studio of the Year and Astro Bot also received the award for Best Audio Design.

Following the announcement of Black Myth: Wukong winning the Ultimate Game of the Year award, a pre-recorded clip appeared online. Feng Ji, the CEO of Game Science, thanked fans for voting and also teased that there are certain “surprises” that will be revealed later this year.
The surprises could mean the first few trailers for Black Myth Wukong DLCs. Previous leaks and rumors did mention that Game Science originally wanted a longer story but was constrained due to their budget.
