Akin to other looter shooter games, The First Descendant has a long roster. Each character or Descendant has different tricks up their sleeve to combat the invaders on the Ingris continent and ensure the survival of humankind. There are 14 Standard Descendants and 5 Ultimate forms but unlocking each of them is a tedious process unless one relies on microtransactions. This guide mentions the two ways in which players can unlock characters in The First Descendant.
A Guide For UnlockIng All Characters In The First Descendant
In the beginning, players can choose Ajax, Lepic, or Viessa as one of the three starter Descendants for free. The two characters that weren’t chosen are locked. This initiates an arduous grind for unlocking all characters in The First Descendant. However, those who are short on time can navigate to the in-game store and purchase a Descendant with Caliber, the premium in-game currency purchased from real cash.
Free-to-play players can unlock all characters in The First Descendant by collecting resources and completing research. The Research feature is available after players progress through the Main Story to finish all tasks in the Kingston region. When those are completed, players can interact with Magister Anais in the Albion headquarters.
Anais provides Research projects that are needed to unlock Descendants. She familiarises the player with the ‘Research’ process, allowing them to scroll through different characters and check their requirements for unlock. Complete character-specific research to unlock the whole roster.
This leads us to the second part of getting characters in The First Descendant. Players will need to hoard character-specific Enhanced Cells, Stabilizers, Spiral Catalysts, and Codes. 400,000 Gold is also required for each character unlock. All the items can be found as drops from enemies such as the powerful Dead Bride Colossus in The First Descendant.
Descendant Codes are the most difficult research items to collect. Most of them require battles with the Colossi. In other cases, some Descendants require players to collect specific Void Fragments, which can only be destroyed by characters of specific elements.
Researching Bunny in The First Descendant will familiarize players with the process of obtaining new characters. The fan-favorite Speedster can be upgraded to her Ultimate form for constant DPS.
Unlocking characters in The First Descendant is time-consuming but it adds to the fun. Players have to encounter and defeat different monsters for the research materials.
