Destiny 2’s latest Season of the Deep update was rolled out a few weeks back and brought plenty of new additions to the game. Among the new activities introduced by Bungie as a part of Season of the Deep, fishing received much attention from many users, as it is not just a simple pastime and provides an opportunity to grab multiple rewards in Destiny 2
Players can locate the available fishing spots, i.e., multiple ponds across:
- EDZ
- Nessus
- Savathun’s Throne World
However, before planning to fish in Destiny 2, players must unlock a Fishing Tackle, the eponymous activity, and collect some bait by completing some in-game quests and other tasks.
Destiny 2: A step-by-step guide on how to unlock fishing in the game
As mentioned, players must complete in-game quests in Destiny 2 to unlock fishing, starting with “Into the Depths.” One must complete the first five steps of the “Into the Depths” quest. Here are the required steps that players must complete in Destiny 2:
Step 1: Players must speak with Drifter via the holoprojector in the H.E.L.M.
Step 2: One can launch the Salvage activity via H.E.L.M.’s Destiny tab and complete the same.
Step 3: To complete the third step, users must finish the “Operation Thunderbolt” mission. They can launch the said mission via the Destiny tab in the H.E.L.M.
Step 4: The next step requires players to bring coral to Sloane in the H.E.L.M.
Step 5: Like “Step 1,” players will again have to speak to someone via the holoprojector in the H.E.L.M. However, this time it will be Sloane instead of Drifter.

Once they have spoken to Sloane, it will automatically unlock another quest titled “Gone Fishin’” that players can complete by executing the following steps:
Step 1: In the first step, players must speak to Suraya Hawthorne in the Tower Bazaar. Players must also collect the Fishing Tackle before moving on to the next step.
Step 2: Players must collect bait in the next step, which they can do by completing Salvage, public events, patrols, playlist activities, Deep Dives, and more.
Step 3: Players will have to catch fish on the outskirts of the EDZ. One can head over to a Fishing Pond, which will be marked as one of the destinations on the map.
On reaching the said area, players can fish in the pond. They will have to catch five fish to complete “Step 3.”
Step 4: After the outskirts of EDZ, players must catch at least five fish in Nessus’ The Cistern. They can head to the location, which will again be marked on the map.
Step 5: The third location with Fishing Ponds, i.e., Savathun’s Throne World, will be the players’ next destination. Destiny 2 will require players to fish in the Miasma.
Step 6: Once players have collected fish, they must release them in H.E.L.M.’s Aquarium.
Step 7: Players must return to the Tower Bazaar and speak to Suraya Hawthorne again to finish the Gone Fishin’ quest.
Destiny 2 will offer Legendary Reckoning Weapons Engram as a free reward upon completing the quest. In addition to that, players will be able to go fishing in the game whenever they desire. After fishing, they can release the caught fish in the Aquarium to gain free rewards.
