Highlights:

In a big step towards promoting esports, the Government of India recently announced tournaments for three games, including Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI). The tournaments are a part of the ‘Create In India Challenge Season 1’ initiative which is designed to encourage local digital entertainment and creations. Apart from esports, there are 24 other disciplines in the first season of the challenge including animation, filmmaking, music, and visual arts.
Launched in 2021, BGMI is a battle royale shooting game that has a massive fanbase in India. Krafton India Esports and NODWIN Gaming have hosted multiple tournaments, the latter being responsible for the recent Battlegrounds Mobile India Masters Series (BGMS). Now, the Government of India has recognized the growth of BGMI esports.
Create In India Challenge: BGMI LAN Event Date, Venue, and Format
The Qualifiers of the Battlegrounds Mobile India tournament organized by the Government of India will be online. Meanwhile, the finals of the LAN event will happen in Goa at an undisclosed venue. Registrations for the competition will be open on different dates: August 23, September 1, September 18, and October 4.
Starting on September 1 and ending on November 4, the online Qualifiers will be split into four batches. A batch will be allotted based on the ‘time’ of the registration. Check out the schedule for the qualifiers below:-
- Batch 1 – September 1 to September 15
- Batch 2 – September 18 to October 2
- Batch 3 – October 4 to October 19
- Batch 4 – October 21 to November 4
Featuring a total of 16 teams, the Grand Finale of the BGMI LAN event will be held from November 20 to November 24. The top three teams from each batch of the Qualifiers will move to the next stage (12 teams). Speaking of the four remaining teams, they will be invited from other countries. The winner will get cash prizes and goodies.
The entry of national teams from other countries will reinvigorate the competition. Moreover, viewers will witness how the local talent fares against top international esports teams in the Grand Final.
BGMI LAN event will be streamed on YouTube. The exact channel hasn’t been disclosed by the Indian Government, though.
Apart from BGMI, the other esports tournaments that will be a part of the ‘Create In India Challenge’ are eFootball and World Cricket Championship 3. Interested participants can register between August to October and gain a chance at glory.
