Roblox is the most popular open-world sandbox game consisting of over 40 million games developed by the community. Players can do almost anything on the MMO RPG platform: swim, build structures, take part in races, dance at parties, and even partake in Squid Games.
Released in 2006, the video game now boasts a player base of over 66 million. It was released on Xbox ten years later. Now, even PlayStation players can join the fun. An official statement by PlayStation on September 1 confirmed that Roblox is arriving on the PS4 and PS5 consoles.
Roblox PlayStation Release Date
Roblox will be available for downloads and purchases on October 10, 2023, for PlayStation4 users. PlayStation 5 users can access the game via backward compatibility on the current-gen Sony console.
Rumors of the sandbox game arriving on PlayStation hit social media when a job posting by Roblox Corporation titled ‘Senior Software Engineer, PlayStation Console’ was seen on its website. The listing from 2022 mentioned that the job’s responsibilities are to “develop and support the Roblox client application for gaming console platforms like Microsoft Xbox One and Sony PlayStation 4.”
PlayStation Roblox will support Virtual Reality devices and cross-platform will include PC, mobile, and Xbox players – the whole Roblox community. The price of the game is unknown but it will supposedly be free. Microtransactions and in-game purchases will require Robux, which will require real money.
Sony CEO Jim Ryan Was Initially Wary Of Releasing Roblox On The PlayStation Console
One of the reasons for the 17-year delay of the game on PlayStation is due to Sony’s strict policies on parental guidance and game addiction. Jim Ryan, while speaking with Axios, mentioned that PlayStation has a large player base consisting of children and they need to be extra cautious of anything that can potentially exploit them.
Nonetheless, these policies were revised and PlayStation is expected to continue the DLC and Game Pass systems of the game to enhance the player experience and gameplay.
