Hana Kurusu is a character in Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen manga who made her first appearance during the Culling Game Arc of the story. Who Is Hana Kurusu In JJK?
Hana Kurusu is a young girl from the modern day who shares her body with Angel, a sorcerer from the Heian-era. Unlike all the other re-awakened sorcerers from the era who took over their host’s bodies, Angel and Hana have a good relationship and co-exist peacefully. Hana also has access to Angel’s Cursed Technique.
It was revealed during the Culling Game Arc, that Angel wishes to eradicate all the other reincarnated sorcerers. But most importantly, she wants to kill Sukuna, whom she refers to as the Disgraced One. On the other hand, Hana Kurusu really likes Megumi, as she had a chance encounter with the boy in their childhood. Their connection with both Sukuna and Megumi, along with her Cursed Technique makes Angel a key player in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc.
What is Hana Kurusu Cursed Technique?
During the Culling Game Arc, we saw that Hana Kurusu can fly using the wings on her back thanks to Angel. Her blonde hair and the halo above her head also give her the physical characteristics of an actual angel. However, it is her power that makes her so crucial to the plot.
Hana Kurusu can use Angel’s Innate Technique, which is known as Technique Extinguishment. This allows her to nullify any other Cursed Techniques, Cursed Objects, and barriers she uses it on, with no exception. Its extension allows her to pour all of her Cursed Energy into Jacob’s Ladder, which increases the power of the technique exponentially. Known as Maximum Output: Jacob’s Ladder, this technique manifests as a ring of light in the sky above Hana and a four-winged trumpet in her hand. When she plays the instrument, a huge pillar of light comes down from the circle, pouring onto whoever is standing under it. The light ‘extinguishes’ any Cursed Technique, barrier, or Cursed Object that it touches.
Why Are Hana Kurusu’s Powers So Important In JJK?
During the Culling Game Arc, Hana Kurusu emerged as a powerful player as she was the only one who could pass through all barriers freely due to her powers. She was the single person that could pass through all the Colony Borders before the 12th rule was added to the game. Angel also used her Jacob’s Ladder to open the back gate of the Prison Realm, freeing Satoru Gojo.
Although not a great combatant, Angel tried to use her power on Sukuna to stop him. However, the villain acted like Megumi, fooling Hana into thinking her attack worked. When she let up her Jacob’s Ladder, he charged at and injured her, making fans think that she was ultimately out of commission. Later, Yuta also tried to use her Jacob’s Ladder on Sukuna using his Copy Technique.

In chapter 263 of the manga, Angel comes back one more time. Just as Sukuna thinks that he has gotten a hang of Todo and Yuji’s attack pattern, Hana appears above his head with her trumpet. In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 264, we will find out what will happen when Jacob’s Ladder’s full power finally hits Sukuna in his weakened state.
