Gege Akutami’s sensational manga series Jujutsu Kaisen just published its final chapter on September 29, 2024. After 6 years of exceptional worldbuilding, readers had a lot of expectations from the story’s climax. Unfortunately, after Sukuna’s sudden defeat in chapter 268, the series only went downhill as it left many questions unanswered. Fans were the most disheartened by the final issue, which only showed a flashback of the beloved Satoru Gojo.
Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 271 Review: Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi Capture A Curse User
Titled, ‘From Now On’ the installment starts with Nobara saying she did not sense a Cursed Seal or Cursed Technique on the girl who was seeing her boyfriend’s eyes get enlarged. Yuji asks if they are in the user’s CT range right now and Megumi says it’s likely the perpetrator’s technique is really covert. Nobara asks the girlfriend if there are set times when her boyfriend’s eyes change, but doesn’t get a satisfying answer. In the end, Nobara, Yuji, and Megumi decide to send the couple to a highrise, which will get them out of the perp’s range.
Their plan works and the trio are able to capture the culprit who was hiding on the roof of the building. After getting caught, it’s revealed that the man was a customer from when the girl used to work at a cabaret bar and became obsessed with her. While talking to him, Yuji remembers his last conversation with Satoru Gojo. The flashback reveals how Gojo said he wants Yuji to get stronger and carry on his dream in case something happens to him. In the present, Yuji tells the perp to keep his head up and go through his punishment.
Megumi asks what happened to that one ‘thing’ and Yuji replies that he got rid of it since it’s not important anymore. The narrative moves to a mysterious place which is likely the afterlife and we see Mahito talking to Sukuna and Uraume. Sukuna tells Mahito that if he got another chance at life, he would have done things differently since he lost. He leaves with Uraume and Mahito throws a tantrum about being alone. The next page shows characters like Yuta, Maki, Panda, Inumaki, Hakari, Kirara, Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi, who are all smiling. The final panel reveals an ominous finger that looks like Sukuna’s.
Jujutsu Kaisen Manga Ending Was Disappointing For Fans
After the closing chapter, fans have been expressing their grievances about JJK’s climax on several social media platforms. Since Nobara’s unexpected comeback in chapter 267, people had hoped for Yuji and Sukuna’s battle to reach a new height. However, the fight ended in the next issue when Yuji used his Black Flash punch to force Sukuna out of Megumi’s body and turn him into a blob-like creature. Following the lackluster defeat of the series’s overarching villain, the story kept going downhill.
Many readers had expected Sukuna to trigger the merger between Master Tengen and humanity, which could destroy the country. But Chapter 270 disclosed that some of Tengen’s residue was extracted from Sukuna’s remains, which were barely enough to hold the barrier around Tokyo for some time. The chapter also showed a silhouette of a character that looked like Kenjaku, but the final issue did not elaborate on whether the villain was alive or planning something more devious. Thankfully, Sukuna, who was one of the greatest villains in anime history, got a fitting farewell at the end of the series.
The most disheartening part of the manga was Satoru Gojo’s fate. Many readers had wished for him to make a comeback in the finale but just got a flashback. The only thing fans were happy about was the main trio Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara working together again. The ominous finger in the final panel has also raised suspicions about a possible sequel manga series. However, nothing has been announced yet and the mangaka also hasn’t given any hints about his future works. With many plot points left unresolved, the JJK manga’s ending was unfortunately not fitting for its outstanding premise.
