Kaiju No. 8 Chapter 118 Recap
Kafka’s eyes start bleeding and he sees an almost dying monster before him. The Meireki-era warrior that he saw before tells him that for 100 days the warriors of the age suffered from the guilt and frustration of losing. Their hearts formed a core that was fueled by that feeling. The core is then fused with the Dragon Vein that runs deep underground, creating a monster. The creature that’s now lying on the ground is the fruit of their grudge. Kafka asks why he’s showing him all this, and the warrior says that it’s because Kafka chose to fight.
However, as things stand now, he can’t win unless Kafka fuses with them and becomes one formidable warrior. The man then outstretches his hand and Kafka sees that he’s holding a heart in it. He says that this is Kafka’s heart, which he planned to return after the victory against the daikaiju. However, since Kafka’s core is already destroyed, he can only return as Kaiju No. 8 if his heart is transformed into a core. He asks Kafka to make a choice – he can either take his normal heart and remain a human, or transform it, and become a monster completely.
However, once he transforms, he can’t ever return to normal. It will go against the wishes of his friends who have supported him through everything. Kafka addresses the monster lying on the ground and says that they’re the same. Both of them couldn’t save people and still kept fighting. Kafka has only gotten this far thanks to the monster created by the warriors, and he thanks them. He says that it’s rematch time and asks the warrior to transform his heart despite knowing the consequences. The warrior transforms his heart, creating a ball of energy, and pushes it into Kafka’s body. The protagonist’s transformation starts in the last panel of the manga.

Fans will see Kafka’s final transformation into a monster in the upcoming issue of the series. This will turn him into a formidable soldier, but he won’t be able to live as a human anymore. On the other hand, we will also see Mina Ashiro’s reaction to Kafka’s sudden transformation. The war is still going on on the battlefield, with Hoshina and Narumi fighting against the monster. They will need Kafka’s intervention to win, but that will come at a great cost. Readers are eager to see what happens when the protagonist starts fighting the final monster.
