The Story of Kaiju No. 8
Kaiju No. 8 is set in a world where kaiju (giant monsters, think Godzilla for example) attacks are commonplace. Of course, as is expected there is a specialized force to deal with the elimination and disposal of these giant monsters. Our protagonist is Kafka Hibino who vows with his childhood friend Mina Ashiro to join the Japanese Defense Force which deals with eliminating kaijus among other duties. That said, the poor man ended up being tasked with clean-up duty for kaiju battles- which is, of course, less fun and flashy so to speak.
That said, as is commonplace with protagonists of battle shonen, man ends up gulping down a mini kaiju one night and transforms into a half-human half-kaiju hybrid monstrosity. He is now granted both flashy powers and the ability to fight kaijus head-on without losing himself to his weaknesses. Except he also has to hide his identity and keep his truth as secret as possible as most won’t take it positively and will instead aim to eliminate him out of fear and prejudice.

A classic battle shonen through and through but underrated compared to the Dark Triad of Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Hell’s Paradise. Fans are happy it’s finally getting some due recognition and the anime is looking great too.
