About LCK Spring 2023 current scenario
Riot Games organised LCK Spring 2023, an offline League of Legends tournament at LoL Park in South Korea. This is the 17th LCK Season which is currently taking place. A total of 10 teams are seen competing with each other for a share of the 375,000,000 KRW prize pool. It has a two-stage format that consists of Group Stage and playoff actions. The group stage matches for the event started on the 18th of January and now it has reached Week 4. The opening fixtures were played out yesterday which gave a total of two matches. The winners of the game remained SANDBOX Gaming and T1. The winner of the tournament will be crowned The Korean champion.
Let’s see what happened on the opening Day of Week 4
The LCK Spring 2023 Group Stage landed in the 4th Week and the opening two matches were played out yesterday. The first match that was played out was Freecs vs SANDBOX Gaming and the second game was played between T1 vs BRION. The matches were streamed on LCK Global’s YouTube channel. Recaps are provided below in a detailed format.
Match 1: Freecs vs SANDBOX Gaming
(Best of 3 score: 1-2)
- Game 1: Freecs picked a lineup of Jax, Sejuani, Azir, Jhin and Ashe. SANDBOX Gaming picked Gnar, Wukong, Akali, Caitlyn and Karma. The game went on for around 37 minutes and 29 seconds, and Freecs won the game.
- Game 2: Legends picked by Freecs included Gnar, Sejuani, Akali, Varus and Jhin. SANDBOX Gaming picked Jayce, Maokai, Azir, Caitlyn and Lux. SANDBOX Gaming won the game after 31 minutes and 20 seconds.
- Game 3: Freecs this time picked K’Sante, Viego, Sylas, Zeri and Lulu. SANDBOX Gaming went ahead with Gnar, Maokai, Azir, Lucian and Nami. This game went on for 31 minutes and 43 seconds, SANDBOX Gaming got their back-to-back victories and secured the best of 3 game series win.
MVPs of the games were Youngjae, Burdol and Clozer.
Match 2: T1 vs BRION
(Best of 3 score: 2-0)
- Game 1: T1 went ahead with the lineup of Gnar, Sejuani, Viktor, Sivir and Ashe. BRION picked Renekton, Wukong, Azir, Varus and Karma. Both the teams played with each other for around 32 minutes and 57 seconds with T1 getting the victory.
- Game 2: The legends picked by T1 were Gragas, Vi, Azir, Zeri and Nami. BRION picked Jax, Wukong, Akali, Lucian and Sona. After 32 minutes and 9 seconds, T1 won the game and secured a complete sweep.
The MVPs for the two above-mentioned games are Oner and Keria.
A look at the fixtures and format
As you all read in our previous articles, the tournament follows a two-stage format which consists of Group Stage and Playoff actions.
Group Stage has a Double Round Robin format where a total of 10 teams are seen in action. All the matches that are played are Best of 3 games and all the teams will play a total of 18 matches each. Teams that will secure 1-6th position will head for the Playoffs. 1st and 2nd-placed teams will be placed in the Playoffs Semifinals.
Playoffs will start after Group Stage actions are over. It will feature a Double Elimination bracket, with all matches of Best of 5 games. The top 2 will qualify for the Mid-Season Invitational 2023.
Conclusion
LCK Spring 2023 Group Stage is split across a total of 9 weeks. Currently, Week 1-5 is ongoing and it has reached Week 4 which you all read in this article. The opening day was played out yesterday and the remaining actions of Week 4 will continue till the 12th of February.
