Major International League of Legends tournament comes to London
According to Riot Games, London is going to host its first-ever International League of Legends tournament. The 2023 Mid-Season Invitational will take place in London, England confirmed by Riot Games. Over the past decade, the country did not host any major tournaments, it is something the citizens of the country will enjoy.
This will be the sixth major tournament that is to be held in Europe. Last year, the World Championship 2021 was hosted in Reykjavik, Iceland. The Mid-Season Invitational will surely bring intense live action for the fans in the United Kingdom. Though the exact dates are not yet revealed, these will be released soon. Between the first and the second splits of every region, this tournament takes place and it is called the Mid-Season Invitational.
About the tournament
A total of 13 invited teams will head for the tournament, It features two different stages, Stage one which is the Play-in stage, and Stage 2 which is the bracket playoffs stage.
For the Stage 1 Play-in stage, the teams will be drawn into two groups and they will be drawn into two double-elimination brackets. Matches will be best of 3 games. Not only this, there will be a Last Chance Qualifier that will be played out. The winners will then head for Stage 2.
Stage 2 will feature Double-Elimination Bracket and the matches will be Best of 5 games.
United Kingdom and its history with LoL
A lot of League of Legends Esports fans stay in London, and very few well-known faces of LoL Esports were born here. Former Team Vitality top lane player Alphari and casters Caedrel aka Marc Robert Lamont, Medic aka Aaron Chamberlain, and Vedius aka Andrew Day were the ones who were born. The United Kingdom hosted one of the top European Regional Leagues in the UKLC before merging with the Nordic Championship League in 2020.
This year’s changes
Earlier, the tournament used to commence with a total of 11 teams but this year, two teams came in as additions, making it a total of 13 teams. The significant international event will be coming to Big Ben’s home for the first time in the history of esports and everyone is excited about it since the news came out.
