At the beginning of the year, Microsoft announced the cancelation of a survival game by Blizzard Entertainment following its takeover of the studio. The project was named Odyssey and it was reportedly in development for six years. It was said to incorporate a magical world with survival elements inspired by popular titles like Minecraft and Rust. Months after the cancelation of the project, screenshots of Odyssey have allegedly surfaced online, giving glimpses of what the players could have experienced in the cartoon-style fantasy world.
Odyssey Leaks: 9 Screenshots Reveal Interesting Aspects Of The Canceled Project
Project Odyssey faced various hurdles in its development before being canceled. Initially, it was being created with the Unreal Engine but was switched to Blizzard’s internally developed Synapse engine. The switch led to delays which made the developers disillusioned about a previously-planned launch in 2026. Blizzard was also affected by various scandals following which Microsoft acquired the company, laying off almost 2000 employees.
A user on the Russian social media site VK allegedly posted screenshots of the Blizzard canceled game. The nine Odyssey leaks disclose various aspects, including a multiplayer feature. Gamers can witness a ‘killfeed’ that supposedly highlights multiple online players contesting to be the last man standing. One of the following images shows the player losing gear durability and numerous resources and keys after being “downed by” an opponent.
The Blizzard canceled project, Odyssey, was a generic survival title. Screenshots feature tools and armor that players would have been able to upgrade. Three bars are located at the bottom left corner of the screen which indicate health, hunger, and sleep. Additionally, there’s a weapons wheel and a crafting system that seems as basic as its world. In the screenshots, one can also see an ‘attribute-assigning’ system which is typical of a survival game. There are attributes like Damage, Strength, Dexterity, Wisdom, and Stamina. An Appearance tab in the menu means that players would have been able to customize their character’s looks. Moreover, as indicated by the UI, the game could have allowed players to use different types of attacks.
Unfortunately, the project was scrapped after multiple setbacks in development. It was set to be the first new IP after Overwatch, which was released in 2016.

Odyssey, or whatever the official name would have been, could have been a fun competitive survival title, if not one of the best multiplayer games. The graphics didn’t seem too demanding which means it could have run seamlessly on old hardwares.
