India has the opportunity to showcase its esports prowess in the upcoming Olympic Esports Games. For a country that is yet to establish itself in the global esports landscape, the inaugural ‘multi-video game’ event gives it the platform to send a strong message. Indian gamers did impress with their performances in the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. Thus, the nation eagerly waits for the next chapter in its sporting legacy after commendable performances in the traditional Olympics.
Olympic Esports Games 2025 Venue And Possible Games
The Olympic Esports Games is a result of a twelve-year deal between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Saudi Arabia. It was announced on July 12, 2024, and is a part of Saudi’s Vision 2030. The program aims to improve the country’s standing in various spheres, including social, economic, health, and investment.
Starting from 2025, the Olympic Esports Games will be held in Saudi Arabia for 12 years after which it will rotate to other locations. This was finalized during the 142nd IOC Session in Paris on August 10. HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal, Minister of Sport for Saudi Arabia, believes it to be “an exciting present and a promising future for the industry in the Kingdom” as well as the next step for the promotion of the global esports community.
Given that the IOC refrains from showcasing games that feature ‘kills’, popular esports titles like Valorant and PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds won’t be featured in the Olympics. The official news about the video games is awaited. It is most likely to include sports titles like tennis, baseball, and chess, and racing like Gran Turismo. Interestingly, a leak mentions that the list may also include fighting games like Tekken and Street Fighter.
India has already expressed their talent in traditional sports at the Olympic level, winning six medals in Paris. It is now time to dominate the esports side. In the Olympic Esports Games 2025, India will have a chance to achieve glory and also usher in a new era in the nation’s sporting legacy.
India Has Shown Her Esports Prowess Across Different Titles
India has proven itself in multiple global esports tournaments in the past. Last year, a six-person team led by the 22-year-old Shenoy reached the quarterfinals in Mobile Legends at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. They finished fifth in the tournament. Moreover, during the inaugural Commonwealth Esports Championships in Birmingham, India won the bronze medal in the DOTA 2 tournament.
Thanks to the efforts of NODWIN Gaming, Skyesports, and Kraton, esports is thriving in India and gamers are being prepared for global challenges. The recently held Battlegrounds Mobile India Pro Series (BMPS) featured 128 participating teams from different states. Formerly, Season 3 of the Battlegrounds Mobile India Masters Series became one of the largest broadcasted esports events.
Roby John, Co-founder and CEO of SuperGaming, believes esports will become a mainstream sport. The studio is currently working on the upcoming India game, Indus Battle Royale. It is not just a game but rather a platform for players to “hone their skills, compete at a global level, and take pride in something that’s made in India.”
Apart from mobile, PC gaming is also being given importance. CyberPowerPC India has launched multiple gaming desktops to equip players with the right tools to begin their esports journey. CEO Vishal Parekh mentioned how Indian gamers must have access to the latest technology to make it big in esports.
