In chapter 1124, the Straw Hats were seen celebrating with the Giants on their ship as the crew headed towards the Warland Elbaf. A mysterious character was seen sitting on the edge of Elbaf Island and calling for the pirates, making fans wonder who it might be.
There Are Many Fan Theories About The Mysterious Man On Elbaf Island
Since Eiichiro Oda has a habit of showing the silhouette of interesting characters before their actual appearance, the fandom is abuzz with theories. The mystery man was seen wearing a huge hat and was drinking from a bottle. From this, some people thought that it might be Shanks waiting on the island for Luffy and his crew. However, we saw that Shanks was in the sea in chapter 1121, meaning he could not have made his way to the Warland this fast. And since he is such a popular and important character who has already appeared in the story multiple times, there is no reason to shield his identity. Although Shanks will play an important role in the upcoming arc, he is most likely not the mystery man.
Another popular guess is that the character is Saul, who has a deep connection with Nico Robin of the Straw Hats. In the latest update, Robin excitedly hugs Chopper and says that she is happy since she will likely get to meet Saul after years on Elbaf. But much like Saul, the mangaka had no reason to hide Saul’s face. So it is unlikely that the mystery man is not the giant Nico is excited to see.
The Silhouette Could Belong To Someone Close To Captain Gol D. Roger
A much less common theory is that the man in the hat is Calico Yorki, Brook’s former captain and the leader of the Rumbar Pirates. If the character is him, then it is likely he would play a pretty important role in the Elbaf Arc. But it would be a bit sudden to introduce Yorki out of nowhere since it is presumed that he is dead. This brings us to the most widespread guess: the mystery man is none other than Scoper Gaban.
Gaban used to be the left-hand of the famous pirate captain Gol D. Roger, who is Luffy’s inspiration behind wanting to become the Pirate King. Although the protagonist has already met many people from Roger’s crew including Shanks, and Rayleigh. It is high time for him to meet the legendary pirate’s close comrade Gaban. Since the story is slowly inching towards the finale, it is understandable that more characters related to Roger and JoyBoy will appear in the story. Gaban’s body also matches the silhouette shown in the new chapter. However, these are all merely guesses at this point and nothing can be said for sure until Oda himself reveals the identity of the mysterious man on Elbaf Island.
