Highlights:
*The Oshi No Ko manga ending has caused an uproar amongst readers everywhere.
*Aqua’s plan works, but the rest of the characters don’t get their time in the spotlight.
The death of the protagonist Aqua Hoshino was probably one of the most heartwrenching moments of the manga. Many fans had hoped he would somehow come back, while others wanted to see how Akane, Kana, and the other characters handled the tragedy. But once the leaks for the final chapter came out, everyone took to social media to voice their dissatisfaction.
Readers Think Oshi No Ko Manga Ending Treated Ruby Horribly
Ruby is one of the most beloved characters in the series, and after her twin brother’s passing, she was devastated. Many people wished she would quit being an idol and live a normal life. But in the end, she continues to put a smile on her face and lie to her fans about her pain.
It seems that despite everything that happened, Ruby didn’t grow as a person at all. A fan wrote,
“Aka Akasaka somehow make ending Attack on Titan & Jujutsu Kaisen acceptable. All those build up from harsh reality of idols & how Ruby surpassed her mother just wasted in the end. Ruby become Ai 2.0. Still as a Idol & concealing her pain with full lies.”
Another complaint people had was Kana’s behavior at Aqua’s funeral. Other than Akane, nobody figured out that Aqua had committed suicide, and believed Kamiki had killed him. Despite that, Kana slapped his body across the face at his funeral. Even though she did it out of immense grief, it was extremely disrespectful. Many fans think it was a terrible way for Akasaka to treat Kana’s character.
No matter how much Aqua’s death broke her, she shouldn’t have disrespected him and all other funeral attendees like that. One fan commented,
“Reading Oshi no ko Ch 165 really hurts me. Why did you do this to Kana, Aka?”
And many others agreed with this sentiment. Some people also pointed out how other than Ruby, Kana, and Akane, everyone else was pretty much forgotten. Many readers thought that everything after Aqua’s death felt too rushed, and ruined the experience of the manga for them.
Everyone Deserved A Better Finale, Including The Readers
The Oshi No Ko manga began back in 2020 and immediately captured the attention of people worldwide with its phenomenal art style and storytelling. Since the beginning, Aqua’s goal has always been to get revenge for her mother Ai’s murder and protect his twin sister Ruby. In the end, he was able to kill Hikaru Kamiki, avenging Ai and saving Ruby’s future successfully. However, after his passing, the author fails to give the other characters a fitting goodbye.
Ruby continuing to be an idol after her mother and brother’s murders due to the toxicity of the industry feels especially unfortunate. It broke people’s hearts to see how she masked her pain with a bright smile, much like Ai. We learn that Kana continues her work as an actor while Akane starts doing variety shows. But characters such as Taiki, Miyako, and Melt were pretty much ignored in favor of Ruby. All in all, much like Jujutsu Kaisen, the ending of Oshi No Ko felt extremely rushed and superficial.
Thankfully, a new sequel novel for the manga has been announced. It will focus on Akane and Kana, and fans are looking forward to learning more about them. The next and final chapter of the manga will be released on November 13, 2024. You can also watch the two seasons of the anime adaptation on Netflix.
