Oshi No Ko is likely one of the most popular seinen manga series of this decade. Written by Aka Akasaka, the series started out with a famous idol Ai Hoshino being murdered after giving birth to her twin children Aqua and Akane. While growing up, Aqua’s goal was to avenge her mother’s death and protect his sister from the same fate. Although he succeeded, the grand finale of the series fell off.
What Happened In Oshi No Ko Chapter 166?
The ultimate issue of Oshi No Ko was chapter 166, which came out on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. Titled ‘STAR’ the installment begins with Akane saying it is impossible to live in this world and never experience sadness. She talks about how Ruby kept crying for days on end after Aqua’s death. However, she was able to get up, box up all her emotions, and start running toward her dream again. Everyone was able to move on from the tragedy that shook their lives. Mem-Cho got one million subscribers on YouTube and fans also got glimpses of Minami and Melt.
Taiki Himekwa still regularly visits Aqua’s grave and we also see Kana protecting Ruby from the paparazzi. Kana throws herself into acting while Akane attends several variety shows. Taishi Gotanda wins an award for the movie but still keeps a photo of Aqua on his desk. The entire world keeps looking at Ruby, turning her tragedy into a drama. But Aqua’s sister continues to grit her teeth and keep performing with a smile on his face. Finally, we see Ruby, Memcho, and two new girls perform as B-Komachi at the Tokyo Dome, which was Ai Hoshino’s dream.
Even though her life is completely shrouded in darkness, Ruby continues to illuminate the existence of her audience. We see a little girl watching her perform with tears in her eyes, no doubt finding the strength to keep living in her bright presence. At the end of the chapter, we see Ruby leaving her apartment for practice at 5:30 in the morning. Before getting out, she says she will continue telling lies and keep smiling on stage even though she’s breaking inside. She tells her mother and brother to watch her walk the path they illuminated for her.
Oshi No Ko Manga Ending Review: Rushed And Incomplete
In their previous lives, both Aqua and Ruby were huge fans of Ai Hoshino. But after their mother’s death, Aqua became obsessed with avenging her while Ruby promised to become an idol. It was revealed quite a while ago that the one who planned Ai’s murder was none other than Hikaru Kamiki, Ruby and Aqua’s biological father. After Niino reveals how Kamiki has manipulated both her and Ryosuke to murder people, Aqua confronts him and commits a murder-suicide, making people believe they have drowned after Kamiki stabbed him. However, Ruby hiding her pain from everyone is too similar to how Ai used to be.
After the release of the final chapter, fans took to the internet to tell the author off for rushing the ending. Many had hoped Aqua would learn to let go of his toxic obsession and live a peaceful life with his sister. However, none of those things happened as he died horribly, leaving behind a heartbroken sister and devastated friends. Moreover, it seems that none of the characters learned anything from his tragic end as they’re still in the entertainment business. Ruby, who has lost both her mother and brother, was the biggest surprise. Fans also thought that the supernatural elements of the manga especially the crow girl, was under-developed.
With its unique premise and captivating characters, Oshi No Ko had the potential to become one of the greatest seinen titles of this decade. However, the rushed ending made it almost impossible to love for many people. Much like Jujutsu Kaisen, many characters felt sidelined and forgotten. It also felt that everyone forgot Aqua and moved on with their lives without talking about him. Some fans are eager for the next Oshi No Ko spin-off novel which will center around Akane and Kana. Moreover, Aka Akasaka will also write a fantasy manga which will start in the Spring of 2025, but many fans have vowed to never read his work again.
If you love the Oshi No Ko manga, here are great ongoing manga series that you need to read right now.
