Oshi No Ko Season 2 Episode 5 Recap
The last episode was titled, The Curtain Rises and finally inaugurated the 2.5D Stage Play Arc. It begins with Akane cooking for her mother, Aqua, and Gotanda. Although they complement her cooking, she keeps thinking about how she would like to save Aqua just like he had saved her. Akane wants to see Aqua’s childhood acting project and he agrees, much to the shock of Gotanda. As she watches the clips, she understands that he has always struggled with emotional acting. It was revealed that Aqua’s childhood trauma was triggered whenever he tried to emotionally connect with his characters. That is why he just copies other actors’ performances instead of trying to connect with his roles.
When Akane asks Aqua about his motivation behind the stage play, he ambiguously reveals his goal of killing someone at a high position. To his surprise, Akane promises to help him through whatever he needs. In return, she asks him to help her win against Kana like a good boyfriend. The two of them decide to seek Gotanda’s help to be better actors as Kana is receiving help from Himekawa.

The narration moves to Ruby who visits Lalalai with Minami. When they talk about how Aqua might be having intimate relationships with Akane, Ruby is triggered. Although she wants her brother to be happy with a pretty girl, she is scared that Akane will suffer from a similar fate as their mother Ai if she gets pregnant. Sakuya tries to flirt with Minami but Melt intervenes, causing Sakuya to insult his acting.
We see another rivalry moment between Kana and Akane when the former reveals that Akane actually used to be her fan. Akane is embarrassed and the two argue, only stopping when Ruby and Himekawa stop them. Tension rises between them when the rehearsal begins since Kana is now determined to take Akane down. Melt asks Himekawa who is the better actor between them. Himekawa says that although they are evenly matched, Kana will win this time because he is helping her.
We are then taken to the day of the performance and several people including GOA, Abiko, and everyone else come to see it. Ruby, Mem-cho, and their other acquaintances also attend the play. Kana and Akane reveal that both are excited to work together but wish to win against their opponent. Aqua gets emotional while looking at a picture of his mother Ai, but calms himself as the play is about to begin.
