By beating Heroic in the grand final of the IEM Rio Major Champions Stage, Outsiders lift their first major trophy
The Champions Stage of the IEM Rio Major concluded yesterday 13th November. Two underdog teams managed to make their way to the Grand Final, which turned out to be interesting. Outsiders this time went against all odds, as a few years back they lost the Major Final against Astralis. This time, situations changed and they claimed their first major trophy.
A brief summary of the Grand Final match and how the teams performed in the IEM Rio Major 2022 final
Starting with the Grand Final, lots of speculations are going on surrounding the Outsiders’ victory. Many believe that the team hardly faced any heavyweight team in this year’s IEM Rio Major. Though a win is a win, Outsiders fought really hard throughout the tournament.
The grand final consisted of a best of 3 game series between the teams, during the map veto Outsiders picked Mirage while Heroic went for Overpass. The Russian team was led by Jame while Heroic was under cadiaN’s lead.
The final games
Game 1: The grand final match began on the Mirage map as opted by Outsiders. The first half was good as Heroic was able to reduce the round gap and the Russian team had a 1-round lead. Later Jame’s team showed why they picked Mirage and dominated the second half securing a 16-12 victory.
Game 2: The overpass map picked by Heroic turned out as the worst nightmare. Outsiders ruthlessly dominated the first half with a 12-3 lead. Heroic players were unable to hold on as they were ripped apart. The game finished with a score of 16-5, which tells the story as Outsiders claimed the victory.
From being the underdog team throughout the tournament and becoming the Major champions Outsiders achieved a great height. With this, the IEM Rio Major 2022 concludes.
