Wizards of the Coast have reintroduced Magic: The Gathering Planechase cards in March of the Machine
Great news for much-awaited March of the Machine fans! The most recent video on YouTube, titled “First Look at March of the Machine”, highlights the comeback of Planechase in MTG’s MOM Precon Commander decks.
Yes, you have heard it right! Wizards of the Coast has reintroduced Magic: The Gathering Planechase cards in March of the Machine, displaying new and reprinted oversized cards that alter the game’s rules. This weekend at MagicCon Philly, Wizards of the Coast unveiled several new cards that will be released as Phyrexia invades the multiverse. March of the Machine just got its first look at that convention. There will be five new Commander decks in the next Magic: The Gathering expansion, each with a Planechase surprise in addition to Phyrexian praetors and compleated gods.
What is the reveal all about?
Developed by Marathon under the lead director of David Humpherys, March of the Machine is an upcoming title that will release on April 21, 2023, and is the ninety-sixth Magic expansion. Well, coming back to the reveal, the casual multiplayer game format called “Planechase” was first released in 2009. Basically, it added new game modifiers and gave players the option to planeswalk. Additionally, it also introduced oversized plane cards. Tolaria Academy West, Jund, and the Isle of Vesuva are just a few of the 78 existing Plane cards in Magic, all of which include particular geographic locales.
There will be five new Commander decks in March of the Machine, and new Planechase cards will be included in each of those decks. At MagicCon, we only got a glimpse of the Commander Decks’ overarching themes, like the blue/white/black Knights deck, the red/green/white +1/+1 counter deck, the red/green/blue artefact tokens deck and the red/white/blue Convoke deck.
Know more about the cards:
There will be a total of 10 new Planechase cards in each of the new Commander decks, including five new Plane cards, four reprinted Plane cards, and one new Phenomena card. The Island of Vesuva will be reprinted, and one of the new cards will be Towashi from the Kamigawa-plane. When a player or planeswalker takes combat damage from this new plane card, all transformed creatures gain trample and get to draw a card.
Moreover, it has a new chaotic ability with the keyword “chaos ensues” that lets you assign three +1/+1 counters to as many as three creatures you control. Although we can’t be sure just yet, it will probably be in the +1/+1 counters Commander deck. And to find out more reveals and leaks of the game, stay connected with us.
