Indian esports and gaming industry has grown tenfold in the past few years, with titles like BGMI (PUBG Mobile) and VALORANT bringing the competitive scene to the mainstream. Now, fans can see more developments in the coming months, after the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, met and interacted with some of popular influencers from the country.
For the unversed, the Indian PM had a chat with fan-favorite gaming content creators on 10 April, 2024. PM Modi met Naman ‘Mortal’ Mathur, Payal ‘Payal Gaming’ Dhare, Anshu ‘GamerFleet’ Bisht, Animesh ‘Thug’ Agarwal, Mithilesh ‘MythPat’ Patankar and Ganesh ‘skrossi’ Gangadhar. All of the influencers, posted a glimpse of their interaction with PM on social media.
PM Narendra Modi Talked About The Indian Esports Industry And His Vision, Content Creators Revealed
During his chat with the content creators, Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about the future of esports and gaming in India, while also sharing his vision around the industry. Fan-favorite influencer, Mortal, pointed out how PM’s “visionary outlook is poised to revolutionize gaming in India. At the same time, Payal Gaming showcased her gratitude towards PM Modi for recognizing the voices and promoting inclusivity in the industry.
MythPat and Thug also shared similar views through social media, after having a conversation with the Indian Prime Minister. At the same time, Bisht called the meeting “a once in a lifetime experience.” Ganesh ‘skrossi’ Gangadhar, country’s one of the best VALORANT professional players, also penned on Instagram,
“An honour of a lifetime as I stood with the leader of our beautiful nation. — I had the esteemed opportunity to meet our Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. His vision for the future of Gaming & Esports in India is truly revolutionary and I am humbled to have shared my experiences and insights with him.”
Government of India’s Approach Towards Esports
It is not the first time, the Government of India has showcased a positive approach towards the Indian gaming and esports scene. The GOI officially recognizes esports as a ‘multi-sports’ event in December 2022, while distinguishing it from the online gaming.
In July 2023, Garena, the Free Fire maker, signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Government of UP, which focused on building up a strategic partnership for the development of infrastructure for esports.
Although games like BGMI / PUBG Mobile and Free Fire have seen setbacks in the form of bans. The BGMI’s return in May 2023 has rejuvenated the Indian esports and gaming scene once again.
