Hatsune Miku fans have a reason to celebrate as Project SEKAI is getting a new anime movie adaptation next year. The project was revealed in a recent update which also included a fantastic trailer and some music from the virtual sensation Hatsune Miku herself. The movie is titled Project SEKAI: The Broken World and Miku Who Can’t Sing.

According to the official announcement on the X account of SEGA, the movie is set to be released on Friday, January 17, 2025, in Japan. However, no international release date for the film has been revealed as of yet. Project Sekai: The Broken World and Miku Who Can’t Sing will be produced by P.A.WORKS Animation Studio. Hiroyuki Hata is the director of the movie which will have a completely original story although it is set in the COLORFUL STAGE! game.

No English voice cast for the film has been revealed as of yet. We also don’t know when the movie will be getting an English dub.
What Is The Setting Of The Upcoming Hatsune Miku Movie?
The latest short trailer gave the audience a glimpse of some of the characters that will be part of the film, especially Ichika and Miku. According to the official website of the film, the story will revolve around a street musician named Hoshino Ichika who listens to a new Hatsune Miku song in a CD shop one day. However, the mood of the song is completely different from Miku’s other music and it was not something she had ever heard before.
After finishing one of her street performances, Ichika meets Hatsune Miku on her phone, although this one is different from the popular version of the singer. This version of Miku reveals that no matter how much she tries, she can never reach people with her music. Together with Ichika, Miku will then try to convey the emotions of her music to the fans. The film also released a beautiful visual art which consists of a holographic Miku sitting down in the middle of a busy street while nobody looks at her.
Although the upcoming project is set in the same world as the Project Sekai game, it will have a completely new story. Hatsune Miku fans can hope for some more amazing music from the fan-favorite virtual idol as she stars in her own film.
