Palworld, the sensational open-world multiplayer game which took over the internet during the initial half of 2024, is getting a mobile version. The confirmation has come from none other than the PUBG: Battlegrounds maker, KRAFTON. A recent press release from the South Korean publisher revealed the signing of a licensing agreement with Palworld’s developer, Pocketpair. The agreement is regarding the game’s IP, which will allow KRAFTON to bring the game to the mobile platforms. Find out more about the press release and development of Palword Mobile as follows:
PUBG Studios’ Development Team To Handle The Palworld Mobile Project
In its press release, KRAFTON confirmed that the development team of one its subsidiaries, PUBG Studios, will handle the project Palworld’s launch on mobile platforms. It is worth noting that the said development team has previously worked on KRAFTON’s iconic PUBG: Battlegrounds (formerly known as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) and New State Mobile. The former shooting game also got its mobile adaptation in 2018.
However, there’s little to no information around a tentative launch window for the mobile version of Palworld, which might still be in its early stages of development. At the moment, Pocketpair is entangled in a lawsuit, which was filed by The Pokémon Company and Nintendo in September 2024. It is still unclear whether the lawsuit will halt the mobile version of Palworld or not.
Why Has The Pokémon Company And Nintendo Sued Pocketpair?
The Pokémon Company and Nintendo have sued Pocketpair with regard to patent infringement. Both companies are seeking compensation for damages pertaining to the patent right violations done by Pocketpair’s Palworld. In response to the lawsuit, the Palword developer/publisher replied:
“It is truly unfortunate that we will be forced to allocate significant time to matters unrelated to game development due to this lawsuit. However, we will do our utmost for our fans, and to ensure that indie game developers are not hindered or discouraged from pursuing their creative ideas.”
Notably, Palworld, which launched as an early access game, fetched much attention due to its ‘pals’ that bear similarities to Pokémon. The game saw a massive spike in fame in early 2024 and is still accessible on multiple platforms, including PC (Windows).
