Ex-Evil Geniuses players shine under the new banner at Lima Major
Shopify Rebellion recently outperformed their opponents at Lima Major Lower Bracket Quarterfinals. It was an encounter between North Americans against their South American counterparts Evil Geniuses. The best of 3 series ended following Shopify Rebellion’s victory by 2-1. However, the joy of winning is not only for the victory but also for how the team performed in their first-ever LAN event with a new roster. In December, Shopify Rebellion signed former EG roster Arteezy, Abed, SabeRLight, Cr1t-, Fly and the coach BuLba. The players showed a complete performance under the new banner, and they made it to the top four with this win with a personal feeling due to winning against the former organisation.
Elimination of Evil Geniuses by its former players
Shopify Rebellion had a reorganisation of their Dota 2 roster in December last year. They acquired the members of Evil Geniuses to form a new roster. Before joining Lima Major, Shopify Rebellion won the BTS Pro Series Season 14: Americas with their newly acquired members. It was a solid formation, and the team continued their remarkable run. They finished 3 in Group B in Lima Major and had a good tie in the playoffs. However, Team Liquid gave them the blow and forced them to play in the Lower Brackets. Evil Geniuses drew with South American counterparts and gave Shopify players a chance to take personal revenge. This eventually came out to be accurate, Shopify won by 2-1 in the series. Take a look at the games and the performances.
Evil Geniuses takes the lead
It was not a bad start from Evil Geniuses as they hit on their former players playing under the Shopify Rebellion banner. It was Game 1, where Evil Geniuses clarified that they are not going away anytime soon. The game ended after 32 minutes and 13 seconds, thanks to the performance of Wisper, Chirs Luck and Matthew for Evil Geniuses.
How Shopify Rebellion turned things
Following the win, Shopify Rebellion players rounded up for a team play in Game 2. Evil Geniuses gave tough competition initially, but Shopify’s SabeRLighT- was not letting this happen. With Snapfire, SabeRLighT went on an absolute rampage and accumulated 14 kills and 14 assists to help Shopify Rebellion get back on track. Under 39 minutes and 57 seconds of the game, Shopify Rebellion levelled the series with a win thanks to the plays from IGL Fly and safelaner Arteezy as they supported SabeRLighT- to crash Evil Geniuses.
And that’s it, the place in the top 4 secured
Evil Geniuses had a dominating start as they kept Shopify Rebellion players out for a bit. Whisper with Timbersaw, and Chris Luck with Void Spirit took some early kills and led in terms of farming. However, Shopify Rebellion returned to the scoring sheets with a strong showing from Abed with Zeus. He got 15 kills and 15 assists, leading his team to a victory after 44 minutes and 50 seconds.
